I was excited to try the Lancome Grandiose Liner, as I am with anything new and innovative, but I was also quite skeptical, as I am so incredibly rubbish at applying liner that I didn’t think there was anything in existence that could make any difference, especially not something as simple as a bent brush…
The Lancome Grandiose Liner comes beautifully presented in a tapered, vase-like tube with a bulbous base where the liquid liner itself sits. The base itself is flat, so you can place it safely on surfaces and it’ll remain upright. It’s available in three shades – black, brown and blue – and I’ve been trying the black shade, which is a deep, pigmented, matte black.
The liner handle itself is a comfortable width making it easy to grasp. There are two sections to the liner lid which allow for the base to bend to an angle that in turn allows for a more precise application. This sounds like a very small difference, which is why I was so dubious, but what this means is that you can apply the liner head-on rather than from the side and this allows for a better visual, a steadier hand and a cleaner finish.
When people first heard of the Lancome Grandiose Liner they described it as a “game changer” and they weren’t wrong, as this is what you have been looking for if you’re a liner fan but lack the agility, talent or skill to do anything fancier than a wad of black ink roughly near the lash line that takes an age to apply. On first use I could apply traditional liner in a matter of seconds – just a quick swipe across the eye and it’s done; I’m left with a clean, pigmented, tidy line that’s as close to the lash line as I could wish. That in itself makes this a great liner – the first in this type of “dipped ink” format that I’ve been able to successfully use without making a mess or covering my lashes in liner – but how does it handle for the elusive feline flick?
Remarkably, it’s brilliant! I have never, ever been able to successfully draw a flick as I always end up with mismatched, unsteady lines that look awful. I first tried this liner last night to do a flick and for the first time ever, I did a flick as part of my make-up today and didn’t have to do any kind of correction or tidying-up. I am completely thrilled with this as I love the look of a great liner flick – there’s just something about a clean face, a pop of colour on the lips and a pretty little flick of liner – but I’ve always struggled…until now! I cannot stress enough just how much easier the new Lancome Grandiose Liner makes things for achieving a clean finish, so if you’re not very good with your liner, then you 100% need this in your life. Congratulations! Sometimes the right product really opens up our world. I was lucky that my mom & one of my older sisters both wore liquid eyeliner while I was growing up, so I learned it by watching. But also, I think the old style pan liner, that’s dry and used with a damp brush, is the easiest liquid to use– hard to find nowadays. In any case, the Hypnose looks good on you. I’m thinking about treating myself to the blue sometime soon.
