The moment I heard about this I just knew it was going to be one of those scents that I would love. Being someone who gets on best with pretty, girly, floral scents, you only have to briefly analyse the name – Peony & Blush Suede – to know that it’s going to meet at least one of my fragrance requirements. This is my first real experience of Jo Malone fragrances, and one thing that’s always appealed to me about the brand’s approach to perfume is the fact that they’re all created to either standalone, or harmonise with others in the range. I absolutely love this idea, and each fragrance comes with suggestions on other fragrances to blend with, but obviously you can do your own thing and come up with a scent specifically suited to your own personal tastes; I love that concept!
Jo Malone Peony & Blush Suede has dominant top notes of red apple, the heart is peony and the base is suede, plus there’s complimentary additions of jasmine, rose and gillyflower, although these aren’t too apparent and only work to encourage the main notes. I would say the suede note is the weakest, and certainly doesn’t become more obvious on the dry down which is a shame as I would’ve welcomed a hit of something a little masculine and leathery to counteract the extreme feminine tones. However, it’s not a huge deal for someone like me who loves the girliness of a floral fragrance.
The cologne comes in standard Jo Malone packaging; understated, classic and timeless that works really well with the scent itself. The suggested combinations that work best with Peony & Blush Suede are English Pear & Freesia if you want to mellow out the scent and add a touch of fruitiness (yes please! I love, love, love the scent of pear) or Orange Blossom to really commit to the floral finish. I would say that there will definitely be some who find this scent far too rich and girly as it’s definitely overwhelmingly floral, but if you like your flowers and enjoy the femininity of a fragrance that focuses almost purely on the sweetness of florals, then this is definitely a scent for you to check out.
It’s available in 30ml and 100ml cologne for £39 and £68 respectively, as well as a body and hand wash for £32, body creme for £50 and lastly a home candle for £39, the latter of which I would imagine to make for the most gorgeous bedroom/boudoir scent!
