Palette Love: Mac Personality Palettes – Power Hungry
I don’t know why, but the Mac Personality Palettes really excited me when I first saw that they were launching. Was it the funky design? Kooky name? Or maybe just the fact that I’ve been keen to blow some cash at Mac for a while? Either way, as soon as I was sure they’d launched, I popped along to my local Mac counter and picked up the Mac Power Hungry Palette.
The Personality Palettes are available in five colourways: Prissy Princess – pinks and cooler toned neutrals; Mischief Minx – very warm neutrals; Rockin’ Rebel – blues and greens; Fashion Fanatic – warm pinks and corals and finally Power Hungry, which is warm, but on the cooler end of warm, if that makes sense…nothing too orange or coral.
Packaging-wise, all the palettes come in sturdy cardboard flip-tops with mirrors. I’d actually say the Power Hungry palette was the least aesthetically pleasing, as all the other palettes have a fun design, but the colours in Power Hungry spoke to me the most, so I went with that.
Each palette contains eight eyeshadows in various finishes (mostly either matte or shimmer) and a highlighter shade that can work as a traditional highlighter all over the face, or as an eyeshadow highlighter too.
The highlighter shade is called Gimme That! which really reminds me of the yellow highlight that’s just launched from Fenty Beauty (Rihanna’s new make-up line) that everyone is going crazy for; I can’t say for certain this is a perfect dupe as I don’t have the Fenty one, but going by swatches, they look pretty similar. I actually really like the Gimme That! shade as it’s really flattering on ashier skin tones like mine.
The eyeshadows in Power Hungry are a great mix that I really, really enjoy using. What’s particularly great about these is that there are a couple of standout shades that work really well on their own, independent from any other colour, so if you’re going for a basic, everyday look, this is a great palette that’ll allow a quick swipe of a single colour – I’m wearing Hot To Trot as a single shade as I write this!
The shades included in Power Hungry are Totally Obsessed – a skin-toned base shade that’s absolutely perfect for pale girls like me; Bossing It – a warm, golden shimmer; Bling Mistress – a matte, everyday taupe; Money Mad – a champagne shimmer; Hot To Trot – shimmering taupe; Winsome Lose Some – a deeper, shimmery taupe with a stronger hit of sparkle; Something’s Fishy – sparkling gold and finally Dangerously Elegant – Matte, deep brown.
This is such a good mix of shades with some really strong singles, such as the aforementioned Hot To Trot, as well as Winsome Lose Some which is a great shade to build a stronger look alongside either Hot To Trot or Bling Mistress. Totally Obsessed is a spot-on base shade that just looks like skin. Even the shimmery champagne/highlight shades are perfect, in that they’re not too warm or OTT. This is the perfect palette for those wanting something a little warmer whilst still being heavily taupe-led.
As you’d expect from a Mac palette, the shadows are buttery, blendable and long-lasting. You really can create a great selection of looks with Power Hungry making it a very versatile palette for anyone who loves neutral, easy-to-wear shades. This is the perfect day palette, but there’s definitely plenty of room to play, and with a slick of kohl and liner, you could definitely create more of a smoky, evening look. The Personality Palettes are £32 each and you can find them all here – link.
