If you’ve been wondering where I’ve been for the past few days/weeks then wonder no more! I’ve been busy gestating; not to be confused with gesticulating as I don’t want you to think I’ve been sitting around at home waving my arms around to make my point in conversation and using that as an excuse not to blog. Anyway…I am pregnant. It’s extremely early days and this could all change in a moment (and sadly for first time pregnancies it often does) but I am nine weeks on Friday and so far, so good.
The downside is that I’m pretty miserable with the nausea and tiredness. I’m struggling to do much and I keep trying to push myself to blog, but it’s really hard when you’re concentrating so hard on not throwing up. Apparently this should all ease up after the first trimester which ends for me in just over three weeks, so hopefully normality will resume shortly after.
One massive issue for me has been the fact that my skin has gone absolutely mental. Not in the way you’d expect; I read about how people get really severe acne and oiliness in the first few months (or more) or pregnancy and thought “well that’ll be me then” but instead I’ve had the exact opposite of problems. My skin has dried out completely to the point where skin across my nose actually cracked from the dryness (seriously…grimness) and the skin on my cheeks and forehead is dry and itchy and inflamed. Apparently that’s the way it goes for some pregnant women, but it isn’t fun! I looked like I had really bad sunburn for a bit but I’ve started using a few products to counteract the issue so it has started to settle down a bit, thankfully.
So there we are! That’s my news. I’ll do my absolute best to keep baby posts to a minimum and I’ll label them “off topic” so you know not to click-through if it isn’t of interest. I’ll be doing beauty posts in relation to my pregnancy (for example, what I’ve been using to deal with my skin as it’s relevant to anyone who’s suffered with sensitivity, extreme dryness etc) and I’m going to try really hard to get back on course with blogging.
Thanks for those of you who have kept reading in my absence, I really appreciate it! xx
Congratulations on the the pregnancy hun. It just be weird suddenly having dry skin after suffering with acne x

Eeep the hugest congrats 🙂 I am so happy for you! Wonderful, lovely, lovely news 🙂 x
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀
Congratulations! I have just found your blog and I am addicted.
I have recently returned to work from maternity leave and I too suffered from the skin changes you describe. If you find any good products to combat it I am sure that there are loads of us that would love to hear about it. Pregnancy and early motherhood opens up a whole new approach to beauty (needs to be quick – those babas take a whole lota time, cheap as no income, kind to sensitive hormonal skin etc). Please do post about your quest to find these products as we would love to hear about them.
For me, Avene has really helped calm my inflamed sensitive skin and also Nude replenishing night oil.
Good luck!
Congratulations – hang in there – it should all settle down soon. The first months are so hard. Xxx
You know this already…but I have to comment any way…
I am so mega excited for you and looking forward to being an “aunty” to mini- you!
I hope the sickness goes away soon and your skin calms down, but all very worthwhile in the end…
Oh and you will have to sell that 2 sexy 2 seater as no way is a pram going to fit in there!
Loads of love

Congratulations 😀 I do hope that things settle down and you can fully enjoy your pregnancy without having to feel the side effects (i.e. nausea and so on). Take care!
You not alone with the skin suddenly clearing up with pregnancy. In fact after 18 years of battling acne (I started breaking out at 11) being pregnant is the only time my face is completely clear! I’m somewhat of a skin buff and researcher myself, so this led me down the path of trying out different pills. Green tea and evening primrose oil are supposed to work well with clearing up your skin because they give you more estrogen and balance out the hormones you do have. So this has become my new obsession and I’m popping the pills now in hope for some final solution..
Anyways I’m done oversharing, back to you.
Congrats on the new addition!
Absolutely delighted for you Sascha! Keeping fingers & toes crossed xxx
Oh wow big congrats!! I hope everything goes well for you in the long wait ahead (and the last month will be the longest EVER!) I was already 5 months gone when I found out, so it passed in the blink of an eye for me, which was both good and bad.
Saw this on my mobile, which won’t let me comment, so belated congratulations and good luck now that I’m finally at a proper keyboard 🙂
Sascha, congrats for your pregnancy! I’m very happy for you! As you said you’ll write advices what you’ve been using to deal with sensivive and extreme dryness skin. Exactly the type of skin I have. I have white and sensitive skin and cannot be much time under the sun. I’ll be happy to hear from you and grab your RSS. Congrats again!
