Tomorrow, Chanel will launch their new lipstick: Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet. This is Chanel’s take on the recent trend for Matte lips. However, what Chanel have done considerably differently is ensure that the colour is both matte and comfortable to wear. I was lucky enough to experience the lipsticks today (special shout-out to the lovely girls at the Chanel counter at Selfridges – especially Amy who couldn’t have done more to help and gave me everything I needed to take the pictures) and can confirm that they feel AMAZING on the lips. I’m so used to that tight, chalky feeling you get with matte lipsticks so I was really pleased to see that Chanel have done something to correct that. These lipsticks are a kind of hybrid, as you get the matte effect colour with the texture of a hydrating lipstick. The lipstick also lasted really well, which was surprising as I expected the colour to wear quickly considering it feels so soft on the lips. The colours are lovely; a mixture of brights, nudes and earthy tones so hopefully there’s something that’ll appeal to everyone. I hope that they extend the range to include more pinks as I’d love to see a soft, baby pink in this texture.
The colours I got to play with today co-ordinate to these numbers, as stated on the swatch:

As you can see, the colour intensity is what you’d expect from a matte lipstick, yet the texture is much more creamier.

Personally, my favourites are 37 and 38 because I’m loving bright colours at the moment. But for day-to-day wear, I’d go for 34 or 39. However, 33 is an ideal nude for channelling this season’s 60’s inspired make-up. The lipsticks are available nationwide tomorrow and will retail at £23.50.
