L’Oreal recently launched a few new products aimed at improving the brightness of the colour of your eyes. In this new range are eyeliners and mascaras which are categorised for blue eyes, green eyes or hazel/brown eyes. What’s interesting is that they haven’t launched much of a campaign behind these products, as mentioned in this entry at MakeupSavvy, so there wasn’t much of a buzz created prior to the launch.
For blue eyes, the main colour pigment in both the eyeliner and mascara is blue, for green eyes it’s green and for brown/hazel eyes it’s purple. I also understand that there’s a bronze one, but that wasn’t available at my local L’Oreal counter and at the time of writing this, there’s no mention of this shade on the L’Oreal website. This is unusual as my understanding of this approach to colour matching is that you need to use colours at the opposite end of the spectrum for your particular eye colour, as if you use anything too close to your own eye colour, it can wash out the colour and highlight the fact that the colour of your eyes isn’t as bright as the colour you’re wearing. Sorry if that’s confusing so to use my blue eyes as an example: my eyes are quite a light sky blue, so if I use a bright blue on my eyes it’ll dominate the colour of my eyes and make them look less bright. Hopefully that makes sense?
