As mentioned a while ago, I’d like to start a regular feature focussing on brands and what they’re about. I’ll start with those I am most familiar with but I intend to branch out and experience other brands, mainly to open my mind a little more (I’m guilty of the ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ approach to certain elements of beauty) but also because I think/hope it’ll make a good introduction to the various brands available on the UK market.
Introduction
Bobbi Brown is an American beauty brand that offers a range of make-up, skincare and perfumes. I’m not familiar with her perfumes, but I have used quite a bit of her skincare and make-up and I don’t think I’ve ever come across something I didn’t really love using. Her skincare is fairly easy to understand and tends to lean towards simplicity, which I personally like very much as I prefer to know exactly what the product is and what it’s aimed for rather than having to guess. Bobbi Brown started her career as a make-up artist and launched her first line with a range of 10 lipsticks intended to look natural and enhance features rather than mask them. Even today, that philosophy is still apparent throughout her range as the majority of her colours are natural and flattering shades of nudes, greys, browns and pinks.
Breakthrough Product
There are many products the Bobbi Brown range is famous for, but when referring to this section I prefer to pick a product that I believe brought something new to the market. Therefore I’ll say the Bobbi Brown breakthrough product would be the Corrector. This is a make-up product that you apply under the eye which neutralises any dark/blue tones. When matched, you’ll find your colour suggestion will be pretty close to your own skintone, whereas under-eye concealers are usually a shade lighter to combat darkness. The Corrector is intended to be worn under normal under-eye concealer with the view that it packs an extra punch in concealing this problem area. It really is a saviour for days when you’ve had little sleep and it’s really obvious!
My Favourites
Shimmer Brick
This is a compact housing five shades of complimentary colours which also contain shimmer. The versatility of this product allows you to either use the individual strips of colour as highlighters or eyeshadows, or you can use a larger brush to mix all the colours together and apply all over the face for a “lit from within” glow. I have these in Rose and Beige (there are three others available, one of which is Pink Quartz which I currently have my eye on and have noticed the long-suffering boyfriend eyeing up, which is handy) and it’s worth getting the right shade recommended by a Bobbi Brown Artist; either in store or online.
Sheer Colour Cheek Tint
I absolutely love the finish and ease of this product. It’s available in 6 shades and my favourite is Sheer Pink. You can either apply it directly from the container and blend it in, or do what I do which is use your first two fingers to tap it into the cheek and build it up. You’re then left with a dewy splash of colour that looks incredibly natural. When the sun comes out, this is the perfect easy make-up addition.
Long-Wear Cream Eyeshadow
It’s so difficult to find cream eyeshadows that will stay in place but this formula is impressive as it’s soft enough to apply and blend but once it’s dried it will not budge. I have this in a couple of shades, one of which is Galaxy and when layered up, it looks like I have a foil applied to my eye as it sets and looks flawless. The shade range available is impressive and it won’t leave your eye until you’re ready to take it off.
I’m trying to make sure my favourites from each brand are limited to three as otherwise I’ll end up with a far longer blog than initially intended, but it’s safe to say that if you’re unfamiliar with Bobbi Brown then it’s definitely a brand worth investigating.
Thanks for this, I’ve never used any Bobbi Brown products before but will definitely have a look at the corrector, I’ve never really forund a concealer alone that does a great job.
Bobbi Brown really are great, especially their corrector! I’m totally addicted to their brand so please let me know how you get on with anything you buy from them 🙂 xx
