Regular readers will know that I’ve been having a few problems sleeping recently, so when the lovely people at Amara got in touch and offered me the chance to sample something from their online range of luxury home accessories, I jumped at the chance to try a Neom candle as I’ve heard incredible things about the brand that Kate Middleton allegedly favours for all her candling needs (slightly odd way of phrasing it, but there you go).
I selected the award winning Tranquility candle which promises to be a deeply relaxing bedtime scent. It’s 100% chemical free and contains English Lavender, Sweet Basil and Jasmine, all of which are known to promote relaxation.
There is no getting away from the fact that this candle is powerful; I opened the box upon arrival and closed it a few moments later before heading out, then when I came back several hours later my whole living room smelt of it which is pretty astounding considering I hadn’t even lit it by this point!
I was therefore a tad wary as I have used candles before that are so strong they feel suffocating, but thankfully that wasn’t the case with this one and once it was burning it released a powerful yet gentle scent that struck the right balance between being effective without overloading.
I know it sounds a bit silly, but I’ve never really considered candles as a light source before as I’ve only ever had one candle burning at a time which doesn’t do much. The 3 wicks on this candle created a fantastic source of light that was gentle and soft, yet still provided enough light for me to be able to read in bed.
The texture of the candle itself was really interesting as it was kind of buttery and oily, so if you slide your finger across the top you’re left with an oily residue. I’ve never come across this in a candle before, so I can only assume this is the natural oils contained in the candle that create the scent.
Once lit, the fragrance started to get to work straight away and was incredibly calming and soothing without a being remotely overwhelming. The fragrance filled my bedroom quickly and left me feeling very relaxed and ready for bed. It made a huge difference to my sleeping and I (FINALLY) got a good night sleep; I woke once in the night (which usually means I’ll be up for a few hours) but I managed to go straight back to sleep, which is something I haven’t achieved for quite some time!
Obviously I can’t say for sure that it was the influence of this candle, but I will definitely be burning it nightly and replacing it when it’s finished just to err on the side of caution. For me, there’s something incredibly indulgent about burning a luxurious candle, so if you’re a candle fan and looking to upgrade to something a bit more pampering then a Neom candle is an excellent place to start.
It isn’t cheap at £37.50, but the burning time is 55 hours and it is a truly high-quality candle. The Neom Tranquility 3-Wick Candle is available from Amara.
Disclosure: I was sent this candle by Amara.co.uk for the purpose of this review.
Sounds lovely! I’ve always wanted to try Neom candles, but alas, cannot afford one at the moment! At least I know they are good now!
Thanks Amy, they’re amazing! I actually really look forward to getting my one going; it’s become a bit of a ritual! xx
