If there’s one brand you can trust to put their own spin on a popular product, it’s Models Own and that’s exactly what they’ve done here. When looking at the Models Own Lip-Stix I’m sure you’re thinking exactly what I thought when these first arrived, “oh brilliant, another brand is cashing-in on Chubby Stick success”, but actually, these are definitely a product that deserves to be acknowledged on its own merit, which I’ll explain further.
First the introductions: Models Own Lip-Stix, meet lovely BG reader. The Lip-Stix are available in eight shades in total so far, and the shades available cover a decent spectrum with all the big names covered. I like the look of the pinks (soooo predictable, I know), so Beauty Blush and Pretty Pink are on my wishlist, but Raspberry Cool also looks like one of those shades that will get a lot of wear and for those of you who enjoy a pale, nude lip, Awesome Apricot looks absolutely ideal.
The reason these Lip-Stix are so different to the usual Chubby offering is because they are actually lipsticks and not tinted lipbalms or moisture-boosting lip colours. They are lipsticks through and through, so you get the solid colour payoff of a typical ‘old school’ lipstick that isn’t overly matte or overly dewy and just sits bang in the middle. Therefore these are awesomely opaque with little effort in an easy to apply format. Apologies for the state of my lips, I was genuinely expecting these to be tinted lipbalms and therefore did not adequately prepare!
The two shades I was sent are Very Berry – a deep, Gothic wine shade that I strongly urge any pale tones to purchase as it’s the sort of shade that brings pale skin to life rather than washing it out further – and Ravishing Red which is a bright, orange-leaning red. Neither shade is particularly summery and I do think this range would’ve suited an AW release point, but they are definitely welcome additions to the market with a solid colour edit and a thoroughly decent price point of £5 each. These are available now at Models Own It.
