I was so, so, SO excited when I first heard of this new release, as I’ve been a long-term Beauty Blender fan as well as a pretty committed Real Techniques fan, so the idea that the two were coming together set off all kinds of excitement in me and I couldn’t have been perkier when I got my hands on a Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge.
The sponge itself is slightly different to the Beauty Blender as it contains angled edges as well as a dome base, to make getting into corners and crevices much easier. Certainly with my Beauty Blender I have to press it into all sorts of silly angles to try and blend around awkward areas like the sides of the nose and the inner eyes. In a way, it’s as if Sam Chapman (the make-up artist behind Real Techniques and Pixiwoo) looked at the Beauty Blender and thought “I can do better than that”, and in fairness, she did!
I’m so happy that this sponge lives up to its hype and delivers in the same way a Beauty Blender does, especially considering it costs a fraction of the price at less than a fiver, whereas if you consider you’d pay anything from £15 upwards for a Beauty Blender, the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge is an extremely purse-friendly alternative. For the price reduction you are giving up the softness of the Beauty Blender as the RT version is firmer and less luxurious in texture, but performance-wise it’s absolutely brilliant; having tried several market alternatives to the Beauty Blender and always left disappointed, I’m so happy there is finally one on the market that not only performs as good as the BB (and in some cases better considering the angled edges) but is priced brilliantly, meaning you can replenish stock regularly without having to spend a fortune. The only downside is that they’re as much of a pain to clean as the original BBs are, but as long as you give them a regular wash, I don’t think it matters whether they actually appear clean or not to be honest. Definite thumbs-up from me! The Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge launches in October from all Real Techniques stockists, including Feel Unique who offer free delivery.
