Some of you may remember how crazy my skin went in the first trimester of my pregnancy. My whole life I’ve had oily skin at varying levels, but for the first 3 months of pregnancy it was as if someone had attached a vacuum to my face and sucked all the moisture out; the skin on my skin felt crepey to the touch, itched like crazy and was so dry that I had no idea how to handle it! I therefore made a few panicked purchases to try and sort my skin out, which included two products from the Decleor Aroma Cleanse range; Essential Cleansing Milk and Essential Tonifying Lotion.
I’ve always had a soft spot for Decleor ever since I tried their Ylang Ylang products (both the balm and the oil) and found them phenomenal at keeping my tricky skin happy, whilst also feeling luxuriously indulgent; applying a balm and an oil to spot-prone skin felt very strange at first, but it left me with happily nourished skin so I loved using them. Therefore I decided to see what they had to offer to help my newly sensitive skin and I decided I needed a good cleansing milk that would balance my skin (as I was still a bit fearful that my skin could go off in the other direction and become spot-prone again…which it did but that was due to the hormones) with a matching toner as I never feel comfortable using a cleansing milk without following up with a toner too.
The Aroma Cleanse Essential Cleansing Milk is a gentle cleanser with a medium consistency so you get plenty of slip without it disappearing into the skin; as cleansing milks go I would say this is pretty perfect in that regard. It removes make-up effectively and you can use it a few times if you’re wearing a lot of make-up without it leaving a greasy residue or film. It smells okay, although it’s a little overpowering at times so tread carefully if you don’t like strong scents. I was a bit disappointed to see the inclusion of Dimethicone in the ingredients list as it’s sold as being suitable for all skin types. Therefore if you have skin that reacts to silicones then you’ll need to tread carefully with this.
I’m not normally one for buying toners unless they bring something to the table (like a gorgeous scent or exfoliating properties; think Elemis Apricot Toner or Biologique Recherche P50 respectively) but I wanted the matching toner for the cleansing milk as I hoped that they would gently work together to balance my skin. The toner – or Tonifying Lotion – delivers as promised and leaves skin feeling balanced, refreshed and free from any residual cleanser. It’s basic and functional, so to be honest if you can get away without a toner then it isn’t essential…contrary to its name!
I purchased my products from All Beauty as it worked out a lot cheaper! The Essential Cleansing Milk was £14.95 and the Essential Tonifying Lotion was £14.35.
I love these products! I had my first ever facial last year and these two were what they recommended to me afterwards, so I bought them and loved them! I still use the cleansing milk most mornings, it’s so luxurious! x
