I don’t see how anyone who’s into make-up can be anything other than a massive fan of Kiko make-up, as every single season they dependably create fantastic edits with wearable takes on what’s currently fashionable. Their collections are always brilliantly themed, fresh and exciting, which is probably the best way to describe Boulevard Rock, their Spring 2014 launch. The inspiration behind Boulevard Rock is the London underground music scene. As someone who lives in London and recently studied music, you’d think I’d be quite the authority on such things, but sadly no! So I’ll just have to take Kiko’s word for it that this is what the cool Musos are wearing. There’s quite a dominant denim theme throughout the collection, made especially apparent in the finishes of the powders and some of the shades for eyes; yes this means a lot of blue and green (neither of which I particularly care for) but thankfully they’ve kept the shades modern by giving them interesting textures and uses. Without further ado, let me run through the collection with you:
I’ll start with the Denim Nail Lacquer which I just love; the finish is described as “demi-matte” which is spot on, as it’s got that brilliant matte texture that’s so lovable in polishes, but without that horrid chalkiness.
Consequently the shades I have (463 – Green and 465 – blue) have swatched up wonderfully and made them a lot more appealing to me thanks to their awesome finish. There are eight shades in total, each costing £5.90.
Next up are the new pencils; we have Rock Idol Lipsticks for £7.90 and available in six shades and Skinny Fit Kajals which are available in six shades for £6.90.
I like the combination of these two shades together (both shades are 02) as I think they’re bright and fun, and I’m surprised how much I like the light turquoise Kajal shade as it’s definitely not something I’d go for! This is definitely a look that’ll work when the sun is out so I look forward to putting together a more exciting Spring look than my usual light brown eyes and pink lips…
The Colour Shock Long Lasting Eye Shadows are what I’m most excited about as they are seriously impressive, both colour-wise and texturally.
In my opinion these cream eyeshadows can easily rival those on offer by much more expensive brands (such as Bobbi Brown) as they are very highly pigmented, can be blended but once set they do not budge.
There are 10 shades available for £7.90 each and the shades in these pictures are 102 (dark) and 105 (light).
Lastly we have the fabulous Rock Attraction Bronzer which is the usual gorgeous quality (what is it about Kiko and their ability to nail bronzers so well?) and fun packaging.
As you can see, the denim theme really comes to light here as you have a zipper running through the powder and a denim finish on either side of the zip, making it look like the flies on a pair of jeans.
I love, love, love details like this as it just makes it all a little bit more interesting. This is available in 2 shades (the one pictured is 01) for £15.90 each.
There are some other lovely products in the Boulevard Rock collection including Rock Attraction Blush – of which there appears to be a stunning shade of pink – where there are six shades in total for £12.90 each, a Street Fashion Eye Palette which contains some great shades that sit very well in this collection priced at £14.90, six new shades of Glow Touch Lips and Cheeks for £6.90 and some new brushes such as the Eye Brush Duo for £12.90 and the Face Brush for £16.90. Everything is available now, both instore and online – link.
