I am *such* a gadget fiend, so whenever a new arrival in the electrical beauty market lands, I have to try it! The new Nicky Clarke Desired Heated Rollers were no exception and they’re a very interesting product with both pros and cons. The Desired Heated Rollers are unlike anything I’ve previously seen as you don’t heat all the rollers at once, and instead you heat them individually as you go along. If you’re organised then you can get yourself into a bit of a rhythm so that the next roller is heating whilst you’re putting the previous one in your hair, but even if you’re not organised at all (that’d be me then) it’s still a surprisingly quick process.
In the kit you get the roller heating pod, 6 rollers of varying sizes – 2 small, 2 medium and 2 large – and 6 pins to hold the rollers in place. It has been absolutely years since I’ve used any roller that isn’t velcro, hence the rather untidy application in the pictures…but nonetheless it did the job. It’s a quick device to get going, you just plug it in, turn it on and place the roller on the pod which stays lit whilst it’s heating, then when it’s ready you put the roller in. I’m not 100% sure but I get the impression it keeps heating for a bit after you detach it as the heat stayed within the roller for absolutely ages which is great if you have hair that needs a bit of work at taking and holding a curl and/or shape.
This kit is ideal if you’re short of space or travel a lot as it really doesn’t take up much space at all. What I’m currently double-checking is whether you can purchase additional rollers as my hair is fine, but there’s a lot of it, so I always have a hard time with rollers because there’s never enough to do my whole head. Having said that, I don’t think this kit is designed for a whole head of curls and instead more for creating a bit of oomph and body on the outer layers which is exactly what it did. It’s worth noting that my hair was unwashed and product free which does not make for ideal styling, yet it held the shape really well for the rest of the night so I can only imagine how good it would be on freshly washed and prepped hair.
It is quite highly priced at just under £80, but I think it’s because you’re paying for the technology which is pretty fabulous. If you have the time and not the cash then I think you can achieve a similar style with a large barrelled tong, but if you’re looking for a quick kit that’ll add a style to your hair in less than 15 minutes then this is a kit worth checking out. The Nicky Clarke Desired Heated Rollers are available now priced at £79.99 from here – link.
