Too Faced are an interesting brand as they’ve only recently become prominent in the UK market…again. There was a time when they were fairly big; they were available in Boots and were as equally tongue in cheek as they are now. They’ve always been big fans of the ‘sex sells’ approach to marketing, which to be honest I’m not sure I’m a big fan of, but maybe that’s just me becoming a prude which old age.
Whether I like the marketing tactics or not is neither here nor there, as what’s important is whether the products are any good. There’s been a few new arrivals of late that have got people quite excited about the brand, so here’s my review of their popular mascara.
The Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara is a plumping formula that promises 1944% volume. I’m guessing this is tongue and cheek as I’m thinking I’d probably struggle under the weight of lashes that are boosted to that extent. The mascara comes housed a in metallic lilac case with a brushed metal finish that I really like; it’s pretty and luxurious looking in a lovely shade. The wand is an hourglass shape that’s about a medium size.
I’ve never been one for sitting around applying coat after coat of mascara, so I usually base my reviews on a single coat which applies here too. This mascara really does provide a decent hit of volume, probably more so than I’ve experienced from other volumising mascaras. It thickens each lash and gives the illusion of a lot more lash than is there, plus it adds length and definition too, which makes it a great all-rounder. It doesn’t smudge and it’s easy to take off, so there really is nothing wrong with this as it delivers on all elements.
It isn’t mind-blowing and it does lack that ‘wow factor’ for me, but it’s a mascara I enjoy using and I find myself reaching for it the most at the moment. Is it actually better than sex? From what I remember, no…It’s £19 and you can find it here – link.
