Honestly I very rarely try luxury mascaras any more as I do believe the high street is now delivering mascaras that perform just as well (and often better!) than their higher-priced counterparts and this one from Bourjois is a fantastic example of this. The Bourjois Volume 1 Seconde Mascara is designed to quickly wrap each lash in a coat of volumising mascara making application simple and quick. I think the “1 second” reference is possibly a bit far-fetched, but it’s definitely a quick-to-apply product in a buildable formula.
The wand is plastic rather than brush style which I know comes down to a matter of personal choice, but I don’t tend to have a preference. The wand itself has a few different length bristles that ensure all areas of each lash are well coated, plus this is handy for picking up the little feathery lashes that sit at the base and corners of the eye.
I have found a bit of a smudging issue with this mascara, although I’ve noticed I’m saying that a lot lately – in fact I can’t remember the last time I reviewed a mascara when I didn’t mention some level of smudging – but this one does tend to smudge on the upper as well as lower lid which is a bit of a shame. Having said that, there is a waterproof version, so if you’re like me and prone to smudging then giving the waterproof version a whirl might be an idea.
All-in-all this is a lovely mascara that delivers on both volume and length with a striking finish that doesn’t look feathery. Again this is a matter of personal taste as I like feathery lashes, but I also like that blunt finish that some mascaras achieve; I find this a particularly good look to work alongside statement liner as I think feathery lashes sometimes get lost with strong lines. It’s £9.99 and there’s currently a 3for2 on Bourjois products at Boots here – link.

Never seen this mascara before but it gives the finish on your lashes that I like, so I will definitely check it out next time I am in Boots.
