Yup so I’m sure you can imagine the sort of state I was in when these babies arrived; three glorious lip products in the most beautiful shades of pink – be still my beating heart etc, etc. The Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stains have recently landed on UK shores and they are well worth getting excited about. I’ve said it before and I really do feel that Revlon are the high-street lip kings; they often take their inspiration from upmarket brands and then create a much more affordable – yet just as good – take on a popular, luxury launch, which is exactly what they’ve done here.
The Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stains are currently available in 12 vivid, colour-pops spanning a good range of shades from a bright, bubblegum pink (LA Exclusive) to a deep berry shade (New York Scene) with various takes on coral, pink and orange in between; it’s safe to say that if you like your brights then you are going to absolutely love these.
The idea behind the Revlon Moisture Stains is that they provide both the longevity of a colour stain alongside the hydration of a moisturising formula, so the product is a blend of intense pigment and goodies such as vitamin E and aloe to keep lips moisturised. Most people who enjoy lip stains will agree that it’s a high-maintenance look as you need to keep lips hydrated which is not always easy with the drying formula of a stain, so the Revlon Moisture Stains deals with this issue by ensuring the formula is moisturising.
The brush is an interesting shape as it’s a very slender doe-foot that allows precision application; you use the edge to draw along the lip-line before filling in with colour. You can blend the colour out for a wash of sheer colour or build it up to a more vibrant finish, although this approach works better with the lighter shades. The stain holds on to the lip well and fades evenly which is especially helpful with the darker colours as there’s nothing worse than the lip ring of doom from wearing darker shades.
The three shades I was sent are all pink, obvs. On first inspection, I guessed LA Exclusive to be my favourite, and whilst I’m still leaning that way, it’s a close battle between all three! LA Exclusive is a beautiful, bubblegum shade that is sooooo pretty and works well with both heavy make-up and no make-up days. It’s flattering and very easy to wear, but out of the three shades this one lasts the shortest time. However, it’s well worth the extra application effort as it’s such a great pink – total, total love.
The next shade is Rio Rush which I’d describe as a “daytime appropriate bright pink” due to the fact that it’s a strong shade, but it isn’t too in-your-face. It’s a close second to LA Exclusive for me as it’s one of those shades that instantly peps you up. I’d say you could just about get away with it with a strong eye look – it would look particularly awesome with a strong liner look – but you’d need to tread carefully to not go too far into drag queen territory with too much on the eyes and lips. I personally think it works best with a pared down face, but I think it can work with most looks as long as you keep the balance right.
Lastly we have India Intrigue which is a gorgeous magenta with a strong blue hue. This is a very strong colour that you might want to shy away from if you’re not a fan of a statement lip, but if you are and you like your pinks then this fantastically vivid shade is well worth trying. I hate saying it’s my least favourite of the three as I really do love them all, but if I had to grab just two it would be the above two…probably. I’m still back and forth!!
As you can see, the pink shades of the Revlon Moisture Stains are beauts, yet if pink isn’t your thing there are plenty of other shades to try and now is a very good time to take advantage as there’s currently 2 for £10 on Revlon products at Boots – a mega saving considering these are £7.99 each – here link.
