La Montana is a great little range of candles with a wonderful inspiration behind the brand, as all scents are designed to replicate experiences of living in Spain, with the gorgeous Galan De Noche inspired by the jasmine-laced night time air.
Each candle has a label inspired by 1930’s travel posters which you can really see on the design. The rest of the candle is traditional and standard and comes in a box that matches the poster. There are four candles in the range so far and I have two of them, the brilliantly scented Alfredo’s Cafe and this Galan De Noche scent.
As the theme of the candle is night scented jasmine, it’s safe to expect jasmine to be the lead note in this candle. Jasmine is my absolute favourite scent, but there are good jasmines that really do smell like you’ve opened the window next to a jasmine bush, and there are bad jasmines that end up filling the room full of a scent like a cheap air-freshener. Thankfully, the jasmine in the Galen De Noche is absolutely gorgeous – it’s light, fresh and very genuine.
The other notes in the candle are rose, orange blossom and ylang ylang and these all help keep the scent bright and stop it leaning too soapy. As a jasmine-lover, I’m quite happy to have it as a single note, but it is a very pungent smell that I realise is an acquired taste, and thankfully the notes in the candle all compliment, rather than detract, from the jasmine, so if you love jasmine then you won’t be disappointed with this particular fragrance. The only downside I’d say is that it doesn’t linger as long as I’d like after extinguishing, maybe just a few hours, but it’s a good candle that burns evenly so i should last quite some time. It’s £35 here – link.
