Another Autumn nail collection that I am smitten with – I don’t know what’s happened to me as I’ve gone from loving anything bright and pink to instead preferring something a little deeper, darker and all round vampier…enter the new Barry M Midnight Gelly Collection.
Described as “off-black”, these are a quad of colours that, after two coats, look almost completely black, but then a little light hits them and suddenly you see the colour beneath the black – I’m currently wearing Black Grape on my fingers (have a look at my Instagram here) and Black Cherry on my toes and both shades are glorious. One coat delivers a surprisingly vibrant (yet still deep) colour, whilst two coats completely blackens the shade right down. As you’d expect from Barry M, the finish is high-shine, durable, and punches miles above its price point.
Black Cherry is very much a Rouge Noir shade, albeit slightly more berry in colour. I am totally in love with really deep and vampy reds for my pedicures at the moment (the darker the better looks great as a contrast to my pale feet!) and Black Cherry fulfills this requirement perfectly.
Black Grape is on my fingers and it’s so multi-dimensional, it’ll definitely get a second outing soon. The great thing about a blue black (this is definitely a deep, deep navy shade) is that often black can be so deep that it looks blue, so Black Grape will leave people wondering whether you’re wearing a black, a deep blue, or just a black that’s so deep that it looks blue!
Black Currant is a more violet/plum shade that’s, in my mind, quite traditionally paired with a gothic blackened nail. It’s very vampy, and even though I love the colour, I think this is probably the one I’ll reach for least since I favour the other three more.
Finally Black Pistachio is the one I was gasping to try the minute I saw it, but I got sidetracked by Black Grape. Black Pistachio is the most beautiful, deep, forest green (sorry to keep using the word “deep” – it just works so well to describe these shades!) that will likely be another Black Grape style light-catcher – expect to see it on my nails very soon!
Hows’about that for getting your Autumnal taste buds kicking? These are £3.99 each…£3.99!! The shine, quality and finish is just phenomenal, so pair those with the amazing shades and you have yourself a winning edit of gloriously Autumnal and Wintery shades.
