It’s LFW AW16 and I’m getting all ready to venture into the chaos that will be Central London a little later today, so here’s a fashion-led fragrance for you, albeit a little less traditionally fashionable! For those who are unfamiliar, Barbour is a fashion brand who are probably best known for their wax jackets, although they do have a fashion range that contains lots of lovely, warm knits, jumpers and shirts with a real “country living” vibe. Whether country living is your thing or not, the Barbour For Her fragrance may well do it for you as it’s certainly not what you’d immediately associate with the country; instead it’s a pretty, feminine, floral and grown-up scent that’s light, gentle and easy to wear.
Housed in a simple, circular yet standing bottle, the top notes are red current and pink pepper. The heart notes are much more floral thanks to rose, jasmine and blush peony, and at the base we have musk, vanilla and vetiver. The result is a really lovely day fragrance that’s light and refreshing; nothing too complicated, it just smells really pretty and fresh. There’s a lot of floral notes in the mix, but they’re good ones; I’d say the most dominant after the dry-down is blush peony, but they’re a good mix and they all work together harmoniously. The vanilla at the base works really well too, as it adds a lovely sweet touch to the mix that leaves a slightly creamy finish. If this is all sounding a bit too sickly to you, thankfully the musk and vetiver stop things getting too “sweets and flowers”! This is no game-changer, it isn’t the sort of scent that evokes memories, feelings or emotions or anything particularly complex, but it is a lovely, daytime scent that I’ve been happily sporting pretty much every day since it arrived.
