The Sanctuary Spa 5 Minute Thermal Detox Mask is a great choice for those who like to regularly use a deep cleansing mask but don’t always have the time to leave it on, or those who hate the feeling of a tight, clay mask, as this one is both speedy (5 minutes, hence the name…) and non-drying. Part of the Sanctuary Spa Cleanse range, the mask is suitable for all skin types in need of a deep cleanse.
The Sanctuary Spa 5 Minute Thermal Detox Mask leads with charcoal as the main ingredient which gives it the dark colour and, alongside the kaolin clay, it’s ability to deeply cleanse the skin. It’s a warming mask, so as you massage it over the skin it warms up, which feels lovely alongside the texture that’s kind of a balmy clay that moves across the skin relatively easily, although not so slippery that it feels as if it isn’t doing anything; it has enough grip to suggest it’s grabbing all the dirt and nasties as it moves along, plus the warming element suggests it’s softening the skin to make accessing the grime more possible.
It works quickly and leaves skin feeling deeply cleansed, although I will warn you that if you have any bumps or spots just under the surface, this will pull them forward into fully-fledged skin spots overnight, so probably best to avoid this the night before a big event, however, definitely use it 3-4 days before an event to pull everything out so you’re not faced with any nasty surprises on the day. This is a great budget find that works particularly well after an exfoliating mask, but it’s quite a powerful cleanser, so don’t use anything too strong beforehand as following with this might be a bit too much for some skin types. I would also tread carefully if you’re very sensitive – not that it feels particularly aggressive, but I think a patch test wouldn’t hurt if you’re unsure. Sometimes I really can’t face spending an hour, on and off, doing a home facial, so when times like that hit I need masks that perform in a short space of time, and this is a great example of the sort of product I’ll happily reach for when I need a quick fix. The Sanctuary Spa 5 Minute Thermal Detox Mask is here for £10 and in Boots, where you can also get a sachet for £2.99.
