I really, really like the Skinceuticals Phyto Corrective Serum as it’s such a lovely, soothing product that works brilliantly at calming reactive, angry, sensitised skin, so I was thrilled to hear that Skinceuticals had added a masque to their line, and I hope this is a sign of things to come – I would like more products in the Phyto Corrective line please! The Skinceuticals Phyto Corrective Masque is a healing, gel mask designed to calm and cool skin that’s become inflamed or aggravated, so this could be from having treatments like skin peels or laser, seasonal changes that impact skin or even everyday experiences that might make skin reactive such as work-outs or hormonal issues like periods and stress.
The formulation is a simple, yet effective mix of botanical extracts and hyaluronic acid which combine to hydrate and cool, but the formula is oil-free so it won’t flood the skin. I’ve had a tricky few weeks with lots of emotional stress alongside very little sleep, so my skin has completely freaked out and become extremely sensitive and angry, making it the perfect opportunity to try out this mask. On first application it feels absolutely amazing – it’s so cool, refreshing and hydrating and it’s as if you can feel your angry skin taking a deep breath and calming down. My skin absorbed this in about 3 minutes but it kept feeling cool and calm right up until I removed it (with a toner-soaked cotton pad, I’m trying to avoid water as much as poss until my skin has settled) and afterwards the effects lasted and my skin showed a very noticeable improvement. With that in mind, I’d say this is an ideal product for anyone who gets angry, hot, sensitive skin as it really will calm and cool, quickly and effectively, and I’d especially recommend for anyone who’s prone to angry breakouts, as this will really help get a bit of balance back. I like to apply the Phyto Corrective Serum in a thick layer, before following with this mask for an intensive treatment, but either product works wonderfully alone.
