Recently I’ve made some drastic changes to my skincare that have made the world of difference, one of which has involved being a lot more selective on my use of acids. I love Biologique Recherche P50W, but I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s just a little too strong for me, so I’ve instead taken more of a ‘gentle and often’ approach to acid toning and it’s suiting my tricky skin perfectly. With that in mind, I’ve put together a list of a few of my favourite, gentle acid toners to suit various budgets.
Merumaya are such a fab brand for tricky skin types as they offer a great range of products that will help with spots (or at least not make them worst) while addressing a multitude of other skincare issues (such as anti-ageing and hydration) so you don’t have to pick one or the other. With that in mind, the Merumaya Gentle Exfoliating Toner offers a great selection of benefits alongside the main purpose of exfoliating, making this a particular good choice for those who want to streamline their skincare. It’s £17.50 here – link.
Another great multi-tasker is the Vichy Idealia Night Peeling, which sounds a little aggressive, but I certainly didn’t experience any night peeling and I would say this is probably the most gentle in this feature. I’d say this toner is the most suited to those who are more dry or sensitive as I think oily or combination skin types can handle a little bit more, but having said that, this is a lovely product that leaves skin feeling and looking smooth and plump. It’s £30 here – link.
I was quite shocked when I started using the Aveda Botanicals Kinetics Exfoliant by just how lovely skin looked after use. This is one of those products that leaves skin looking perfectly balanced with just a hint of dewiness and I think most skin types would see benefit from this. It feels lovely and velvety on the skin and seems to make other products a little more effective, making it a great all-rounder for £18 here – link.
I’ve already raved of the joy in using the CosRx AHA/BHA Clarifying Treatment Toner in my favourites post here, but I had to include it in this post as it really is so lovely and gentle with a fab mix of acids (including my favourite three: Salicylic, Lactic and Glycolic) that really does smooth skin and prep it for the next step in my routine, yet it’s so gentle that I can use it after an acid cleanser without causing any redness or sensitivity. This is one I’ll be repurchasing! It’s £17 here – link.
