My irrational, unnecessary, OTT obsession with makeup brushes continues, with the arrival of the Nanshy Necessities Collection making rehab virtually impossible – what a gorgeous edit of brushes this is! Nanshy are an interesting brand as they’ve quickly developed a name for themselves as creators of good quality, innovative brushes with some amazing value sets alongside individual brushes too.
The Nanshy Necessities Collection contains nine brushes, all of which are vegan and cruelty-free, and come housed in a faux leather cosmetic bag. The genius of these brushes is that they’re round with a flat edge on one side, a detail that is so small but makes a huge difference, as when you put the brush down, it doesn’t roll off and disappear. It also allows for a better grip, making this a really well designed handle. I’ve roughly broken them down into two brush types, starting with the face brushes (from bottom) which are 17 (for blusher and foundation), 18 (bronzer and blusher), 19 (powder and bronzer) and 16 (contouring and highlighting).
Next are the eye brushes, starting (from bottom) with 15 (setting), 11 (spoolie for brows), 13 (crease), 14 (shader) and 12 (brows). The worst brush is the brow brush (12) as it’s just far too solid to pick up any product or distribute it effectively – it’s actually snapped off after a couple of uses! The brush I like the most is 17, which is perfect for buffing in foundation after application, and it’s dense enough to really work product into the skin, so great for thicker creams and concealers. I also really like both the other powder brushes (18 and 19) as they’re so wonderfully soft and easy to use. The shadow brushes are also fab – so soft and gentle on the eye, making blending and applying eye makeup a really easy task. The Nanshy Necessities Collection is £69.95, which is a bit more than I was expecting, but it’s still a really great kit that I’d say is a worth investment – if you’re looking to start a good quality brush set or fancy expanding your existing kit, this really is a lovely set to bring into the mix. I have had a couple of sets of Nanshy brushes for about 3 years now and they still look as good as new. Fab quality but after seeing this new set I think it is time I upgraded them and treated myself to some swish new ones. I like the dark handles and think you get a really good selection of brushes in this kit.

That’s what’s so exciting about this set is that is really innovative and interesting, so even those with a full brush kit (like me!) will still find something new to play with.
