Is it even my 12 Gifts of Christmas series if it feature something from Bobbi Brown? My loooong love affair with Bobbi Brown is still ongoing (we’re now pretty serious) and I always get tremendously excited to see what they’ll have to offer at Christmas as they do nail that luxe, decadent, beauty-lover vibe perfectly. The Bobbi Brown Downtown Cool Eye Shadow Palette could not be more me: I was so excited when I first clocked it online and even more excited to get my hands on it.
As the name suggests, Bobbi Brown Downtown Cool Eye Shadow Palette is a very cool toned quad of eyeshadows featuring four amazing mattes that can be used in a selection of ways to create a variety of looks. The shades are (clockwise from top right): Grey – a light grey perfect as a base shade or adding a touch of colour for low-key make-up days; Brunette – a deep, everyday brown perfect for one colour looks; Cool Grey – a deeper, medium grey that works really well as a transition shade for smokey looks and finally Cool Brown – a deep, dark, almost blackened brown great for adding definition.
Obviously these are Bobbi Brown eyeshadows, so expect buttery, blendable formulas with buildable payoff. What’s also fab about these shades is that they can work really well as brow shadows too, making this a really versatile palette – I was actually thinking that if you were someone who wanted to completely minimise all your make-up and have the most basic of kits, this would make for the perfect purchase as it’s four incredibly versatile shades that provide so many possibilities, from a barely there finish to a full on vampy, smokey eye – this is a pretty impressive achievement for what is basically a quad of shadows!
I’m someone who really loves cooler leaning tones so this is a perfect palette for me and the most ideal antidote to the current trend of spicy, hot, autumnal shades that are everywhere right now. The Bobbi Brown Downtown Cool Eye Shadow Palette provides classic shades that you will reach for continually, so this is the perfect gift for someone who would prefer access to key colours for flattering looks rather than a huge array of shades. I also think this is a great little investment palette for people at school/uni as it’s a great set to have in your kit. It’s limited edition and costs £32.50 here – link.
