There are two things I find really exciting around Christmas time (other than the fact that it becomes socially acceptable to build your whole day around food) and they are Christmas Candles and Christmas Nails, the latter of which I’m sharing with you today. I have three leading collections to show you from three top brands.
First up there’s OPI with their Love OPI, XOXO collection, that contains 12 Christmassy shades with all tastes covered; there are three takes on the traditional Christmas red, a couple of deep and dirgy greys, some delicate shimmers, a pale gold and a few darker, vampy shades to ensure that literally everyone is likely to find at least one shade they fancy.
Did you know that each OPI collection will always have 12 colours and each of the 12 colours will be available in three formulas: Nail Lacquer (the traditional ones that most of us use), the Infinite Shine (a 10 day, 3 step system similar to gels but without the light) and the GelColor (a typical gel system) so if you find a shade you particularly like, you’ve got a lot of choice regarding how to wear it! You can find the full collection here – link – as well as the fantastic Mini Lacquer collection that features all the Love OPI, XOXO shades as well as 13 others.
Next up is the Essie Winter 2017 Collection, which is surprisingly understated (considering how easy it is to go mad on anything Christmassy) so the collection is demure, classic and sophisticated, with a strong yet shout-free nod to Christmas. There’s a good mix of colours, formulas a finishes with a couple of reds, a deep green, a nude and a beautiful dark grey.
The thing I love about Essie collections is that they always tend to throw in a wildcard colour – a shade that’s a bit different from the rest – and in this collection it’s the shade Social-Lights which is a gorgeous deep grey with a beige, iridescent shimmer. The Essie Winter 2017 collection is available at Boots (although it’s out of stock online) but I’ve found the majority of the main colours on Amazon here – link.
The final collection is the Morgan Taylor Little Miss Nutcracker collection, which contains six festive shades as well as a silver glitter topper. I have to confess, I think this collection is my favourite as it’s very Christmassy – I think Christmas is the one time of the year where you can throw caution to the wind and go all out with the sparkle and the colour – green glittery nails? Yes please!
The Little Miss Nutcracker collection contains all the big hits: a gold, a silver, a red, a blue, a purple and a beautiful glittery green. These are all lovely shades, although I think I’m inclined to favour the silver (Dreaming of Gleaming) and the green (You Crack Me Up), both of which feel wonderfully festive perfect for Christmas nails.
The final product in the Morgan Taylor collection is the Silver in my Stocking shade, which is a chunky silver glitter suspended in clear polish. This is such a great idea as it’ll make any of your existing collection look a lot more Christmassy, and it’s a great way to add a subtly festive finish.
I’ve included swatches of the original collection with the Silver in my Stocking top coat over the top (one coat) just to give you an idea of how it looks over some Christmas colours. The whole collection is here – link – where there are some great kits and specials too.
