One of the many things I love about fragrance is how personal it is; the same fragrance can evoke polarised reactions and can smell completely different from one person to the next. If you find a fragrance that hits all the right notes (pun intended…) then it can be the start of a lifelong love affair. With that in mind, the ability to tweak and personalise a fragrance is an extremely attractive prospect, so Ormonde Jayne are starting to make that possible with their stunning assembly of existing scents.
I was invited along to experience the fragrance collection at their Mayfair boutique which is an outing I’d really recommend to any fragrance-lover; I was going to touch on it a little more in this post but I have some lovely images from the brand of the newly refurbished boutique, so I’ll be featuring it in another post soon. I was gifted a bottle of the Ormonde Jayne Sampaquita which I chose for myself after working my way around the fragrance collection (several times…) as it was the one that excited me the most.
At the moment, there are two personalising options for the made to measure service, the first of which is deciding how powerful you want the fragrance to be. I decided to go for a bit more punch with mine and requested a 40% concentration, but you can go up to 50% if you really like a strong hit of fragrance. On reflection, I wish I had gone for the 50% as I love Sampaquita so much (I’m even applying it before bed – I’m that person now…) that I would’ve been very happy with a huge punch of it whenever I wore it, but the 40% definitely offers plenty of strength. As you can see in the pictures, the other personalising option is engraving, which is a lovely touch if you are gifting the fragrance, but also another great way of making the fragrance your own.
Ormonde Jayne Sampaquita is a total joy to use and wear. It’s beautifully presented in a delicate bottle with a stopper (I’m sure there’s a fancier name for it…) that allows you to precisely apply it in a way that makes me feel like a movie star from the 40’s, although I am slightly nervous every time I open it that I’m going to spill it! Sampaquita is a bright, light floral that’s incredibly pretty and very feminine, whilst still maintaining a level of grown-up sophistication. It feels both classic without being dated and modern without being over the top, with a careful edit of white florals alongside the lightest touch of zingy bergamot. I’ve been wearing this pretty religiously since I received it and I anticipate using up every last drop. Ormonde Jayne Sampaquita made to measure starts at £220 for the 40% which you can find online here – link – or by visiting the Ormonde Jayne Boutique at 12 The Royal Arcade, Old Bond Street, W1S 4SL.
