The one beauty constant during the pandemic (for me, at least) has been fragrance, as I’ve used it pretty consistently throughout. There’s something about spritzing yourself with a burst of fresh scent that gives you an instant mood lift, so I’ve been really enjoying finding some new perfumes to try. I first heard about the new Jimmy Choo I Want Choo scent on The Perfume Shop’s IG page (here it is) and I thought it looked and sounded gorgeous, then it turned up on my doorstep and I’ve been happily spraying away ever since!
Jimmy Choo I Want Choo is an oriental fragrance with fruity top notes, white floral heart notes and ambery/spicy base notes. This is very much a crowd-pleaser of a scent with nothing complicated or complex going on, but honestly, I love a crowd-pleaser and this one is done really well. The peach and mandarin orange are zesty and fresh at the top, before the heart notes of Red Spider Lily and Jasmine Sambac kick-in, continuing that freshness without being too overly floral. The whole thing settles on the base notes of vanilla and Benzoin, which ground the fragrance really well – it sounds like it should be really sickly and sweet with notes such as lily and peach, but the Benzoin does a really good job at levelling it off.
I’m not a huge fan of gold so the bottle colours don’t really do it for me, but I do like the design, particularly the fact that it contains a spray cap (so the perfume comes directly from the cap and you don’t have to remove a lid) as I feel this gives it a bit of ol’ school glamour. I also really like the red box, very Jimmy Choo!
I Want Choo is definitely a fragrance aimed at the younger market and I think it meets the requirements for such a product really well; it’s fun, sparkly (both the packaging and the fragrance itself) and very easy to wear. I can see a seventeen year old me absolutely drenching herself in this scent, and the 36 year old me is very happy to wear this whilst lounging in lockdown too!
I Want Choo by Jimmy Choo is currently a The Perfume Shop exclusive, with prices starting at £45 for 40ml, £65 for 60ml (pictured) and £85 for 100ml. The Perfume Shop will send out a sample of the perfume with the purchase, so you can try the fragrance and decide if it’s for you without opening the box (so you can return it if it doesn’t do it for you) which I think is such a great idea!
