I was *SO* excited to have the opportunity to try the NoNo! IPL Device from the full range of NoNo! products available at Very.co.uk because I’ve been meaning to get into an IPL habit for quite some time as I am the perfect candidate for it: I have pale skin and dark leg hair (joy!) so that makes it really easy for the IPL to do it’s thing and work on reducing hair growth.
The NoNo! IPL Device is a small, lightweight, handheld device in a pretty blossom pink that comes well-packaged with a power lead, a basic razor (as you need to shave your hair before use) and a comprehensive instruction manual that details exactly how to use it and what to look out for.
For those who are unfamiliar with IPL, it’s a really simple and easy way to significantly reduce hair growth and is particularly well suited to the main problem areas of the underarms, bikini line, and of course, legs. I have just been focusing on my legs for the benefit of this review, but I’ve been so impressed with the results that I’ll be adding in my underarms to my routine soon.
The IPL works by targeting each individual hair follicle, which is why you need to shave beforehand, so the laser is able to get right into the hair and weaken it (and eventually, hopefully, kill it off completely) from the root. It’s a relatively painless experience that just feels like a light flick on the skin. Obviously more sensitive areas are likely to feel a little more uncomfortable, but it would be a big stretch to actually call it “painful.”
The NoNo! IPL Device is incredibly easy to use, thanks to it’s intelligent technology that ensures two things: firstly, perfect contact with the skin to make sure that the laser goes exactly where it’s supposed to and secondly, with each movement it works out the precise setting needed for optimum efficiency, so you get the very best pulse light with each individual use. This is particularly handy for those who are new to IPL and don’t know what settings they should be using for their skin and hair type.
It’s literally a case of “plug in and play” as you plug it in, place it on your skin, push the large button on the top and it’ll shoot off a bolt of laser into the follicles. The head is a decent size, so you do cover a good area with each pulse. You then slowly slide it all over the area you want to treat until you’ve covered it all, and that’s it! If your skin is particularly sensitive then you might find that it feels a bit tingly afterwards, but I have quite sensitive skin and I had no issues.
I was very impressed after the first use as I could see patchiness on my legs already and regrowth was definitely slower. After 3 uses I could reduce how often I shaved my legs, as even the patchy bits that were still coming through were finer and less obvious. I have used IPL before so I might have hair that is more responsive to it, plus, as I mentioned earlier, I’m the ideal combination of pale with dark hair to get the most benefit from a device such as this, but I am definitely sticking with the NoNo! IPL Device as it’s so easy to use, incredibly lightweight and I love the pink colour too!
