Is it just me, or are product names just getting longer, and longer, and longer…? Enter the Too Faced Born This Way Ethereal Light Illuminating Smoothing Concealer. Ignoring it’s extremely long name, thankfully it lives up to all of the aforementioned promises and is currently one of my favourites launches of the year; a bold statement until you remember it’s only February, but it still counts and this concealer is absolutely gorgeous!
The Too Faced Born This Way Ethereal Light Illuminating Smoothing Concealer is the newest member of the Born This Way family, following on from the success of the original Super Coverage Concealer, which speedily became an iconic product due to the high coverage and long-lasting benefits. If the SCC was the cool kid of concealers, the new offering is the grown-up, silkier, smoother, more sophisticated sister; she’s elegant and creamy and buffs likes a dream, letting just a little skin show through whilst balancing colour and reducing shadow. This pretty can be built-up or buffed out and if you’re a little bit creased under the eye, like me, this is your new essential.
I love a natural finish and I very rarely go for anything high coverage, even though I have quite a lot to cover! I’m not too sure whether the Born This Way Ethereal Light Illuminating Smoothing Concealer is designed to cover everything, or just go under the eyes, but I’d say it’s best suited to the latter, which is just excels at, providing a buildable hit of coverage alongside a really illuminating finish that’s just so flattering! I have reached for mine every day since it arrived as I absolutely love it.
The shade range is really good, and if you know what you are in other Too Faced products then there’s a handy guide on the site. There are currently 18 shades that span very light to fairly dark. My problem in the past with Too Faced is that they didn’t go light enough for me, but that is definitely not the case now, in fact, out of the three shades I was sent (2nd, 3rd and 4th lightest – Milkshake, Vanilla Wafer and Oatmeal) I’m able to use all of them to lighten and correct under the eye as well as on the face, although the coverage isn’t heavy enough to completely eradicate my scarring, nor what I expect to it be as it’s lovely, light and comfortable to wear – I even love the doe-foot applicator, which slots neatly into the dip under my eye for precision application.
I love to give balanced review and I always try to find something to criticise, but I genuinely struggle with this one! It’s beaten all of my other under-eye concealers to the top spot, due to it’s long-wearing, hydrating formula, beautifully dewy finish and buildable coverage – I could not be more impressed.
I’ve uploaded a TikTok video here of me reviewing these and trying them on.
