I kind of dip in and out of love for cleansing brushes, as they are fantastic for that deeply cleansed, extremely clean finish – kind of similar to when you’ve had a basic facial – but they can also cause problems if not used correctly; overuse can dry out skin, create inflammation and make skin issues worse. I’ve been a long-term Clarisonic fan (and I still think they’re one of the best, if not the very best) but whilst they used to completely dominate the cleansing brush market, there are now quite a few options to suit a variety of needs and budgets.
I’ll start with the Magnitone, which I first featured almost three years ago (here’s my original post) and I remembered finding it a little rougher than is ideal, but either my skin has toughened up or they’ve softened the brush and made the whole experience more gentle, as my reacquaintance to this obvious Clarisonic copy was extremely positive – I found this to offer a really deep cleanse that felt kind on my skin and could happily use this daily. Next up is the Clinique Sonic brush, which comes with a brilliantly designed starter brush head that contains two sets of bristles that offer different levels of cleansing, both of which you can use during the same session depending on how you angle the brush. What’s really great about this is that there are quite a few brush head options available (including the Massaging Treatment Applicator, pictured) so you can truly tailor make your brush to suit the specific needs of your skin. The arrival of the Foreo Lunas was incredibly exciting as they pretty much changed the face of cleansing brushes, since they looked completely different to what we had grown accustomed to. They were brightly-coloured silicone in an array of pretty colours, and I was quick to write them off as novel, but actually they pack a serious cleansing punch – after one use the deep cleanse is noticeable and it’s very easy to be lulled into a false sense of security; you don’t want to overdo it with these! The pictured pink pretty is the Luna Play, a travel-friendly, slightly fiddly version that doesn’t perform to the same standard as their bigger sisters, but it’s a great introduction to the Foreo range and will quickly tell you whether this is the sort of cleansing brush you’d like or not.
