Anyone who’s ever had problematic skin will have almost certainly, at some point, invested in a tube of the original Estee Lauder Double Wear, a seriously high-coverage and long-lasting foundation that gives a skin-like finish whilst masking even the very worst breakouts. Recently, Estee Lauder have extended their Double Wear line considerably, with the newest member being Double Wear Light, a foundation that promises all the benefits of the original Double Wear, such as extremely long-lasting wear, without the heaviness of a higher coverage.
The first thing I noticed about the Estee Lauder Double Wear Light is how great it feels and looks on the skin immediately after application. It’s sheer and light, but definitely offers more coverage than a tinted moisturiser, instead giving skin a blurred, perfected finish that’s ideal for everyday wear. The brand describe the finish as “matte re-imagined” which is exactly right; as it’s not matte in the literal sense, as your skin doesn’t look matte after application, just natural and even slightly glowy, but instead, as the day goes on and sweat and oil start appearing on your skin, the foundation steps-up and keeps these elements from changing the finish of the formula, so if anything, as the day goes on, skin becomes slightly more matte in finish, without any dryness or a caked-on finish – it’s impressive; I think it’s particularly well suited to anyone who avoids matte because they don’t like the dry look, but also can look quite shiny as the day goes on.
Estee Lauder Double Wear Light is available in an impressive 28 shades with three undertones. I’m Porcelain (1N0) which is the palest neutral shade available, and a perfect match for me. Now my skin has drastically improved, I can get way with a lighter coverage and can happily wear this alone (although I did add concealer in the above picture as I was going out to dinner and wanted a heavier finish) which I intend to do on holiday. The long-wear is fantastic, especially for such a light coverage; normally the lighter coverage foundations are so hydrating they slip all over the place, but this one is actually oil-free, so clearly it’s been designed to stay put, which it does. It’s £33.50 here – link.

Thanks Sascha for another great review! It’s really helpful to hear how a foundation wears throughout the day. I’ve dithered over this one before but it sounds right up my street. Do you think the palest shade would be pale enough? xx
Hi Anna,
Thanks so much for your lovely comment. It is a gorgeous foundation and I definitely think you’d find the pale shade pale enough – I really struggle with getting a good match but they have pale shades in three different undertones, so definitely worth getting shade matched if you can xx
