Happy New Year, everybody! Doesn’t it feel surreal talking about 2021 in the now, when it feels like 2020 still hasn’t had a proper chance to get going? I hope you all managed to have a lovely and hopefully this time next year, the insanity that was 2020 will be something we can firmly leave in the past.
In July 2015, I tried out the first few launches from Pixi Skincare and I was so impressed – I remember being really shocked at how good the range was as it contained such lovely ingredients, sensible formulations, cute packaging and reasonable price points, so it was a big hit for me. Since then, the Pixi Skincare range has become huge and the latest additions come in the form of the Pixi Clarity range.
Pixi Clarity is a perfectly timed range for addressing mild breakouts and congestion, so it’s ideal for anyone who’s struggling with the dreaded “maskne,” particularly if you have otherwise decent skin, as the Clarity range is wonderfully gentle and soothing, with a host of joyful ingredients such Cica and probiotics alongside a powerhouse trio of gentle acids – Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid, and of course, Salicylic Acid.
What’s really lovely about this range is that it’s clearly not your typical, “strip it all way and hope for the best” spot-fighting range, and it’s instead designed to address the inflammation, providing a calming and soothing routine that’ll help rebalance skin. Don’t be afraid of the acid content as they’re all very mild, providing a light hit of essential exfoliation to ensure the other goodies can get to work properly.
There are (so far!) four products in the range:
Clarity Cleanser (£18)
Clarity Tonic (available in 100ml for £10 and 250ml for £18)
Clarity Concentrate (£26)
Clarity Lotion (£24)
I’ll start with the Clarity Lotion as this didn’t really work for me and actually broke me out, however, I have established that my skin will breakout with Niacinamide as it just doesn’t like it at all, and the Clarity Lotion contains it, so that’s probably why it didn’t work for me but most people are absolutely fine with Niacinamide and in fact it can be very helpful for breakouts. I will say that, it left skin feeling very sticky which isn’t ideal for breakout-prone skin, however, it also felt very hydrating without being heavy, so I think this’ll be a bit of a “Marmite” product, you’ll either love it or hate it.
The Clarity Concentrate is a lightweight, water-based serum that’s a really good place to start if you’re new to breakouts and normally have okay skin, as will gently treat and refine without creating any balance issues. It’s light enough for the whole face, but you could definitely use it just on areas of breakouts if you’d prefer. Aloe and Niacinamide are high up on the ingredients list, so this is definitely designed to calm rather than attack, but again, Niacinamide is not my friend so I have to tread carefully.
The Clarity Cleanser is my favourite of the four products, as this is everything a spot-fighting cleanser should be; exfoliating, hydrating, purifying and soothing – you have your big three acids alongside Aloe, Cica and probiotics, meaning this is going to really help with a number of issues that can cause breakouts. It feels great to use, and after cleansing skin feels fresh and clean without any dryness.
The final product is the Clarity Tonic, which I knew would be a good’n as Pixi are known for their amazing toners. This can definitely be used as an acid toner thanks to the inclusion of the big three which sit among other great ingredients such as Cica and Hyaluronic Acid. This is very gentle, light, refreshing, exfoliating and calming and I think, if you’re like me and in the tiny minority of those who didn’t get on with the cult Glow Tonic, this might be a good one to try as I’d say it’s gentle enough for most skin types.

I was surprised by how much I liked this range as it’s not really aimed at my dry skin x
