Concoction are a brand who I wrote about last week when they had their pop-up shop in Selfridges. I’ve already explained their concept, so to cut a long story short, the idea is that you can create your own, personal shampoo prescription that will contain ‘shots’ that are specific to your hair type. You pick a base scent, two of these shots and mix them all together to create your bespoke shampoo. There’s also a conditioner available that comes in just the one variety; the beautifully scented White Lily and Cashmere.
July appeared to be the month of the hair care launch, as I am almost literally swimming in haircare products; pretty much every other day a new launch arrived on my doorstep, so I’m struggling to get through it all! Therefore, the fact that I’ve used both Concoction products for every wash since I started using them says a lot about the products; I like them enough to not want to try anything else just yet, and I have tried quite a few hair products recently that I’ve really liked.
The Concoction base shampoo I have Black Pepper and Citrus, and the two shots I went for are Turn Up the Volume (to add volume, obvs) and High Definition Blonde to cater to my hair colour. I happily hold my hands up to say that I fully expected this to be a set of lovely haircare products that left me with nicely scented hair. I really didn’t expect the promises of the shots to deliver as I didn’t think it was possible, especially with the follow-on of the generic conditioner. However, this picture below is of my hair after using the shampoo and conditioner; I’ve not used any styling products and I just rough dried it with my hands and dryer:
As you can see, there’s actually plenty of volume there, much more than I’m used to with standard shampoo and conditioner sets alone, and there’s also bounce, glossiness and the blonde in my hair looks rejuvenated, so this is why I’m still using these products even though I have a mountain of others to review!
If I have to be critical, I’d say I’m not a huge fan of the citric, peppery scent of my base shampoo as it’s just a little too masculine for me. Thankfully it doesn’t linger and the wonderfully potent and feminine conditioner scent of lily and cashmere completely drowns it out. I also really like the packaging, which has a push-button-style base, making it easy to operate with one hand, and allows the product to be stored upright and upside down so you won’t waste a drop. As you can probably tell, I’m a real fan of this range from Concoction, and I hope to see more additions to their range in the very near future. The shampoo is priced at £14 and the condition is £16. Currently if you purchase both together you’ll get free delivery. More info can be found at the Concoction site here.

great post. currently loving the rosemary and mint version using every day,i also got the blackpepper and citrus which i like as it good hair wash after being in the kitchen at work all day.i also love that you can choose serum shots or double up for extra boost.
I had bought the two serums to try but did not know I needed the shampoo too, could I still use them in a different shampoo?
Hi Tori,
I honestly don’t know, but I think the shampoo is formulated with as little as possible in there to interfere with the serums, so I would guess you’d be better off with the shampoo, however, it’s worth getting in touch with them directly xx
