Five Best Under-Eye Concealers

Whether you’re commited to the art of everyday make-up application or just a weekend-and-special-occasions-only make-up user, chances are, somewhere in your collection there’ll be a product that is aimed at reducing the appearance of under-eye bags.  There’s an astonishing amount on the market to choose from, ranging from super-luxe brands which promise to not only cover but also lighten, to high-street brands which serve the basic function of toning down the blue tinge.  Having tried a decent mix from both ends, here is a list of the brands and products that I feel actually do a good job:

Bobbi Brown Tinted Eye Brightener

This is my everyday undereye concealer which I wear with a tinted moisturiser on days (read that as most days) when I’m not hugely fussed about looking perfect but I still want to cover up the worst of my beauty issues.  It’s got a wonderful consistency and tones down the blue under my eyes just enough, but what I love most about it is that it’s natural and very easy to apply.  I dot it on, leave it for a few minutes to warm to my skin and blend it in.  I don’t have to worry about priming or setting it and it stays put.  It’s the ideal holiday under-eye concealer as it’s nice and small, but it’s also great for those ‘no make-up make-up’ days. 

Dior Skinflash Radiance Booster Pen

This is Dior’s take on the iconic Touche Eclat, which I used for years until curiosity got the better of me and I decided to try Dior’s offering instead.  I found the consistency and shade a much better match for my skin (although this was back in the day when Touch Eclat’s shades were limited) and it was easy to apply and blended beautifully without creping into my fine lines at any point.  I would say that this is a step-up – coverage wise – from the Bobbi Brown Eye Brightener as it offers a slightly more polished look. 

Bobbi Brown Corrector

This is a fantastic product if you’re prone to really bad under-eye circles as this completely neutralises the blue which results in you having a clean surface to start with.  This isn’t technically a concealer as you will need to apply a concealer on top (any under-eye brightening concealer works over the top of this) but it is ideal if you’ve had a really late night/bad hangover/not well and you know that a concealer alone won’t cut it.  The idea is that this corrector will bring your under-eye area as close to your skin colour as possible which might sound a bit strange but actually looks very natural once a concealer has been used over the top.  In the same way you might use a green concealer to minimise redness on your skin before applying foundation, this does the same for your under-eye area.

Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer

Yes, it’s her again.  I won’t lie, I’m a HUGE Bobbi Brown fan and this is mainly due to her range of under-eye concealers as they really do work.  I always suggest to people who are having a hard time with the under eye area to try Bobbi Brown first because if it’s a real issue for you, you’ll inevitably end up trying her range eventually and then kick yourself for trying anything else!  The massive advantage this concealer has over others is it’s consistency; it’s creamy enough to spread evenly over the area without being so creamy that it’ll slip all over the place.  It works beautifully with the corrector and on days when I’m going for a full make-up look, I won’t feel complete without using this.  It genuinely makes a big difference so if you’re in any doubt as to whether to try it or not, I strongly suggest you do!

Clinique Airbrush Concealer

If you can’t be bothered with faffing about with correctors and concealers and are just seeking an easy application that’ll still allow a good level of coverage, then this is your choice.  Considering it’s a pen applicator, the result is surprisingly full coverage with a decent level of highlight.  If I’m looking shattered and I haven’t enough time to use my Bobbi Brown kit, then I’ll give this one a use instead.  It isn’t perfect and it does take a bit of blending, but it’s still effective enough to make my top five.
