A little while ago I had a Smashbox makeover that involved the use of a fantastic purple/silver/taupe shade from the Heat Wave palette that I fell head-over-heels in love with. I tried to justify the purchase of the palette before deciding to go on a hunt for a decent dupe of that one specific shade. I have no idea if I succeeded with the two shades I requested from Kiko Cosmetics – Taupe and Golden Mauve – but I do know that they are absolute stunners that are perfect for blue eyes and have introduced me to the Water Eyeshadow collection which is *amazing*.
The Water Eyeshadows are available in an impressive 32 shades, and come generously sized, housed in a sturdy mirrored compact. They’re designed to be used either wet or dry and can easily go back and forth between the two finishes, so there’s no risk of ruining the pigment or product with water.
Golden Mauve (202) is a warm, almost cranberry shade with flecks of russet and silver that make this a beautiful shade alone, or wonderful for adding warmth/definition to the outer corner. Taupe (228) is much more silvery in finish, but definitely contains those hints of earthy tones which allows it the Taupe description. This is a perfect every day shade that I would imagine flatters most eye colours.
Used dry these are highly-pigmented with a shimmery finish. When you add water you end up with a slick of shadow that’s almost metallic and very reminiscent of the sort of finish you get from Bobbi Brown cream shadows, just a lot cheaper! In these pictures I’ve used Taupe all over the eye up to the crease and Golden Mauve as an accent on the edges and lightly under each other. The only other addition is one coat of mascara.
As is usually the case with Kiko Cosmetics, the shade range for the Water Eyeshadows is extensive and inclusive, so if you’re on the hunt for a pretty shade that’s a little bit different then I recommend having a nose through their shade selection as I can bet money something will take your fancy. Kiko Cosmetics Water Eyeshadows are priced at £8.90 each.
