bareMinerals are a brand who have really developed their colour range recently, to the extent where it’s just as covetable as other mid-luxury priced make-up brands which is a unusual considering that the association of mineral products usually comes at a detriment to colour, style or usability…or at least that’s my experience! Generally speaking, I love mineral make-up for base/coverage, but I tend to leave well alone for colour. However, bareMinerals have changed that for me, especially with their latest launch, the Power Neutrals.
There are five products in the Power Neutrals collection: a Marvelous Moxie lipstick in Make Your Move, Marvelous Moxie lipgloss in Rule Breaker, Lash Domination Mascara, Ready Blush in The One and The Power Neutrals 8.0 eyeshadow palette. I’ll be focusing my review today on the lipgloss, the blush and the palette.
Starting with the gloss in Rule Breaker, which is a mid-beige nude shade that works really well within the neutral theme. I cannot get on board with the Marvelous Moxie lipglosses (although I absolutely love the pencils and lipsticks) and that’s purely and simply because I cannot handle anything mint flavoured at the moment, and sadly the Moxie lipglosses have a strong mint flavour. This is a pregnancy thing – I was fine pre-baby with anything mint – so I can’t really give a full review on how I felt this lipgloss performed as the whole time I had it on I wanted to whip it off!
That’s the negative out of the way, now on to The One blush which is a gorgeous and slightly shimmery pink shade that adds a gentle pop of colour and warmth to the complexion. If you’re pale to mid toned, this is such an easy blusher to wear that does what a good blusher should do; it breathes life into the complexion giving pale skin like mine light and brightness. I’m having a total love affair with blushers at the moment as they’re making such a huge difference to my deathly pale, anaemic skin and The One is probably the easiest to work with as it just merges with my skin and is extremely flattering. It’s easily one of my most reached for shades.
Now on to the cream of the collection which is The Power Neutrals Eyeshadow 8.0 palette. I am so in love with this, rather predictably, since I’m such a huge nudes and neutrals fan, but this is just a brilliantly thought out edit of neutral shades that isn’t just a random selection of various shades of brown. Instead you have greys, khakis and silvers as well as taupes, bronzes and vanillas; it really is a beautiful collection that is getting some serious use/abuse from me on a daily basis as there are so many different looks to create. I also really love the fact that there’s a mini look book included with the palette that contains 3 different look suggestions to get you started on the palette. The colour payoff is amazing with zero fallout, the colours blend and merge beautifully yet still stay strong and vibrant and after several hours wear on unprimed, oily lids, there’s no creasing. If you need a good introduction to the bareMinerals brand or you just want to buy one thing to update your kit, this is the product for you! The other thing worth mentioning is that the included brush is actually really handy and not the usual throwaway brushes included in palettes; the whole eye look in the picture above was achieved using just the included brush, making this a wonderfully travel-friendly palette.
All bareMinerals The Power Neutrals products are available now from here – link – and instore. The mascara is £16, lipstick is £16, lipgloss is £16, blusher is £22 and palette is £35.
