I’ve realised recently that when it comes to all things beauty, I am intensely and unashamedly fickle, which I suppose is why I love beauty so much as it’s such a fast-paced industry that’s constantly launching new and interesting products, so there’s always something new to keep me excited. Long-term readers will recall that I’ve done a couple of long-term skincare trials which have involved using the same products religiously for a fixed period. I had a hard time with this as I really like to mix it up, although there are a few brands and products that I always find myself going back to, but that’s a whole other post…
My current skincare routine is all about convenience, so products I can use quickly with maximum effectiveness, ideally in a wipe-off format. I have been really suffering with post-pregnancy hormones and I’d say my spots are the worst I’ve ever been which is why you haven’t seen any FOTD posts, but for the past few weeks I’ve started following this routine fairly consistently and thankfully I’m now seeing an improvement.
Make-Up Removers
I’m still using and loving the Melvita Floral Bouquet Eye Make-Up Remover which is a bi-phase product that’s so fantastically gentle and doesn’t strip the eyes at all. I have quite reactive eyes but this doesn’t cause any issue and instead leaves the skin around my eyes feeling very soft and clean; check out my full review here. I’m also using the Elemis Pro-Radiance Cream Cleanser which is the thickest cream cleanser I’ve ever used and therefore would be absolutely amazing for dry skin types. I use it as I can use pretty much anything from Elemis without issue and I tend to tissue this off rather than use cotton wool as it’s so thick, so if used with cotton wool I’d be there quite a while! If I really can’t face putting in the effort of two different products (I really am that lazy now) then I just stick with a Micellar such as one from Bioderma or Melvita.
Toners
I know there’s a strong case against toners – many argue that they’re pointless – but I just love a toner and my skin doesn’t feel completely clean without using one. Forever more I will use Elemis’ Soothing Apricot Toner because I love the way it feels and smells; it’s the perfect “cleanser finisher”. Then I follow with the much raved about Biologique Recherche’s P50W. I will be going back to the BR routine soon once I can handle a full routine again as it really did deliver results quickly, it was just a little more work than I can handle right now. The P50W does an awesome job at exfoliating my skin and speeding up the healing process of spots.
Moisturisers
The Aroma Actives Omega Rich Face Oil was the product everyone was going a bit loopy for when we the brand was due to launch, but it didn’t do much for me as I figured it would probably aggravate my skin problems. However, I decided to try it a few weeks ago to see what happens and it is absolutely gorgeous; it’s got gorgeous slip and feels like it’s really feeding skin, but it doesn’t leave a film and soaks in extremely quickly. I apply the oil, then I finish off with Trilogy’s Balancing Face Lotion which is designed for my skin type, yet doesn’t have the usual ‘pointlessly drying’ qualities a lot of moisturisers for oily/combination skin types do; it feels like a proper moisturiser rather than a moisturising gel or similar.
If I could perfect this my routine a little more, then I’d add just a tiny bit more moisture as my skin is doing that freaky dry AND spotty thing that it loves so much, but apart from that, this easy and effective routine is suiting my really well…at the moment!
