Last week I got my hands on a few of the Models Own Polish for Tans varnishes and I’m pleased to report that they’re as beautifully bright and brilliant as the press release and images suggest! There are five shades in total – you can read my intro post here – and I was sent three shades: Bikini – a neon yellow, Shades, a strong, orange/pink/coral type shade that’s actually quite tricky to describe and my favourite Sun Hat which is a seriously bright, neon pink that could not make me more pink-happy if it tried.
I gave myself a quick and painless manicure using Sun Hat (obvs) on all fingers other than my little finger which I used Bikini which I think worked quite well. The reason there are no pictures of my manicure on the blog is because I literally applied them in the dark (son was asleep next to me) and BOY can you tell; if you fancy checking out a fuzzy, filtered image then check out my Instagram picture here – link.
I found Sun Hat applied more evenly than Bikini which was prone to streaking. However, I really can’t give a full or fair review on application since I literally applied it with light from the TV only, and on that basis it really wasn’t too bad. The shades are matte but not chalky matte; in fact I’d go as far as to say that they’re almost a bit creamy in finish, so maybe a demi-matte?
Bikini is a strong, vibrant pop of yellow that I thought I would hate based on the press release images, but I’m surprised to say I actually really like. It’s a yellow that I think a lot of people could comfortably wear – quite a statement for such a notoriously tricky shade – and it would look seriously amazing on tanned feet.
Out of the three, Shades is the one I haven’t tried yet, but it is one that I think will probably be the biggest crowd-pleaser out of the five shades as it’s the least neon colour and is an easy one to wear regardless of your tan status. It’s extremely difficult to describe; I mentioned coral but there isn’t enough orange there for it to be coral as it’s definitely a pink shade. It’s a much purer pink than Sun Hat; I’d like to maybe call it a light raspberry shade?
Lastly, my absolute favourite shade is Sun Hat which is just a beautifully bright Barbie pink that is unashamedly girly and neon without being too harsh. Perfect for both fingers and toes, tanned or otherwise, THIS is the shade for me that I will certainly replace.
Another glorious collection from Models Own that I couldn’t be happier with as it really is so summery and worth checking out if you’re in need of a pick-me-up. These are a fiver each from Bottleshops now, and they arrive everywhere else over the next couple of weeks.
