I love this time of year where all the Spring/Summer nail colours launch and make you really feel like relatively stable sunshine is genuinely nearby. In the same way the Coca Cola lorry ad makes me think Holidays really are a’comin’, fun new nail launches make me think summer is a’comin’ too. There are three new launches from Models Own, all of which are very seasonal and consequently very welcome.
First up we have the product I think will be the most popular of the newbies, which is the Microdot which is a clear base containing multi-coloured particles that completely transform any colour, and make for a very easy nail-art effect. Keep in mind that there are five coloured particles so you’ll want to avoid any shade that’s too similar to any of the colours (yellow, blue, orange, red and turquoise) to ensure maximum impact. I think this works best on anything in the shade are (black, white or grey) but things like pink and pastel shades would work well too. In the swatch you can see one over a clear base (3 coats), and 1 over both of the new Fruit Pastel shades which leads me nicely to…
…the new Fruit Pastel shades! There are two new equally fruity arrivals; Peach Melba and Coconut Cream. Neither of the shades particularly appealed to me but I gave Peach Melba a go to see how it looked and acted; it went on like a dream and smelt wonderfully fruity. I was really surprised by how lovely Coconut Cream looked in the swatch; it’s an off-white coconut shade meaning it lacks starkness, making it a very wearable take on this season’s white nail look.
Last but not least we have the new HyperGel Top Coat which is designed to plump and add a really glossy finish to any nail colour in the style of a gel finish. The brush is slightly wider making it easy to apply and it does dry quickly. I’ve only tried this on my toenails so far and there’s definitely a lovely glossy finish but I can’t tell whether it’s extended the time the polish stays chip-free. Interestingly this is slightly more expensive than the usual Models Own polishes at £8. I wonder why? All products are available now with the Microdot being £5 and the new Fruit Pastel shades also being £5. Head to Models Own for more info – link.
