When Teddy’s arrival was just a few weeks away (over 7 months ago now!) the lovely people at Simple kindly sent me a pack of their Baby products to use on my Little Man when he arrived. All babies have sensitive, delicate skin and Teddy’s is particularly bad; he reacts to all sorts of fragrances and formulations which often result in anything from mild rashes to full blown hives. Thankfully it’s easy to control, I just have to use very gentle products that won’t make things worse, so that’s where Simple have saved the day!
First of all I’ll talk about the washes. There are only three brands I feel comfortable using on Teddy with Simple being one of them (the other two being Weleda and Love Boo, but they’re both a lot more expensive!) and this is because Teddy’s skin responds really well to these formulations. Out of the three bathing products I have, I use the Moisturising Bath the least and this is purely because it’s a bit of a faff to rinse off Teddy since he’s absolutely huge and waaaaay too big for his current bath, it’s just another thing that we don’t need to battle with. As soon as we move (into somewhere with a bath – we only have a shower at the moment so it’s a bit of a nightmare!) I’ll be using this more often as bubbles are such good fun and this is a really lovely, gentle bubble bath. Up until recently I was using the All-In-One Wash as the name suggests – all over Teddy’s hair and body – because he doesn’t really have enough hair to warrant a separate wash. However, I used the Moisturising Shampoo a couple of days ago on his hair and it made such a difference; not only was it fun getting a full lather going on Teddy’s hair, it also left his hair soft, silky and beautifully baby soft, so I’ll be giving him a separate hair wash from now on.
Lastly we have the essential for every household with a baby in it, the beloved baby wipe. I had a bit of a strange start with baby wipes as I was quite scared of them; my Midwife made it sound like the very definition of child cruelty to use anything other than water wipes or cotton wool and water so I felt rather guilty when I caved and started using baby wipes on Teddy’s perfectly formed bum. Let’s not forget he has extremely sensitive skin so I walked carefully and only used wipes designed for very sensitive skin. It then became a Goldilocks style hunt for the perfect baby wipe as I sought one that wasn’t too thick, nor too flimsy, nice and wet without lots of drips and, most importantly, gentle enough for Teddy. I ended up again only using three brands, one was Pampers Sensitive (fine and functional), one was Waitrose Bottom Butter Wipes, the latter of which are amazingly scented – vanilla – and priced accordingly at pretty much double what you’d pay for baby wipes; let’s not forget what their primary use is…The Simple Baby Moisturising Wipes bridge the gap between boringly basic and unnecessarily luxurious as they’re well-priced at around £1.50 per pack – depending where you shop as there are some fab deals to be found – ,they’re the right thickness; sturdy but still thin enough to get into every nook and cranny and they’re extremely gentle. At the end of the day, if Teddy’s bum is happy then I’m happy too! More info on the Simple Baby range can be found here – link.
