It seems every brand is jumping on the gel polish bandwagon lately (it’s the BB Cream of 2014) with varying degrees of success. The new Max Factor Gel Shine Lacquers are extremely good and deliver on every aspect that they promise; they’re easy to apply, brilliantly pigmented – you could easily get away with one coat if in a hurry – and they leave a plump and glossy finish.
There are nine shades available so far, most of which are bright and colourful, although there are a couple of deeper, moodier shades too. The shades I have are Vivid Vermillion – a bright orange just a couple of shades short of neon; Radiant Ruby – a fairly bright but deep red wine shade that bridges the gap between berry and red; Glazed Cobalt – a bright blue that I think will be one of the most popular shades and lastly Twinkling Pink – a fuchsia shade that’s a lovely take on pink without being too bright.
All the shades are very much what I’d call autumnal brights, by that I mean they’re lovely bright shades but nothing too over the top for the incoming autumnal season. The rest of the shades in the collection are Patent Poppy – a classic red; Sparkling Berry – a gentle berry shade; Sheen Merlot – a deeper red; Gleaming Teal – a very pretty mid green shade and lastly Lacquered Violet – a bright purple. My favourites of the four I was sent are Twinkling Pink which unfortunately doesn’t show up very well in the swatches as it’s a much deeper pink and Glazed Cobalt which is a fantastic blue. All of the Max Factor Gel Shine Lacquers are available now for £7.99 each. Boots currently have them for £6.99 each with a buy one get one half price deal on here – link.
