I can’t quite believe that in a few days it’ll be NYE again; I still recall NYE 2013 as if it were a few a months ago so it feels very strange to be ringing in the next one already! They say time speeds up when you have kids and that definitely seems to be the case with me. This year I will be trying to replicate the joy of last year which consisted of watching the fireworks on the telly with Teddy, which sounds rubbish, but it was amazing.
I thought I’d put together some of my favourite nail looks to give you some inspiration as there are a few different looks to pick from, which I’ve broken down into categories below. For reference, every nail on the wheel was painted with one coat of white (OPI’s Alpine Snow) and then finished with two coats of the main polish with one exception which I’ll explain later on.
First up we have the golds – a shade I would never previously have seen myself wearing on my nails, but it’s actually a very pretty colour against pale complexions. Gold is such a beautifully festive shade that I think looks especially wonderful on party nails. I have four of my favourites above starting on the left is the deepest of the four, a burnished gold shade from Boots No7 called Hot to Trot – link, then next to that is the one I’m wearing in this Instagram picture which is I Want a Pony from The Lacquer Lab – link. The sparkliest of the four is the appropriately named Gold from Only Fingers and Toes – link – and lastly the most metallic is the Eve Snow shade Prima Donna – link.
Next up is a bit of colour block which is just an excuse for me to show you some of my favourite party nail shades. First on the left is my current pedicure shade, a metallic purple shade from Essie called The Lace is On – link – then next to that we have another metallic shade from Eve Snow called Wanderlust – link – which is likely to be my next manicure shade as it’s oh so pretty. I included the Nails Inc Latex Effect polish in Shoreditch High Street as it’s a woefully neglected polish that deserves a shout-out as it’s an awesome, smooth finish (they’ve nailed the latex inspiration) in a great shade that looks really interesting on nails and is on sale for £8 here – link. Last in the colour block is another Essie shade, Forever Yummy – link – which is brilliant red that stays the right side of bright.
Now on to some top coat ideas, which are handy for either “partying-up” your current manicure if you haven’t got time for a totally new shade, or for accent nails, or, if built-up over several coats, for some serious impact. Starting left again we have the glorious Bourjois top coat in Glitterizer which literally looks good over any colour and comes out as shards rather than specks – link. Next to that we have the extremely unhelpful swatch of Snow Globe from The Lacquer Lab, which contains holographic and light-reflecting spheres that have caught the light of something yellow in this image – link. Models Own Micro Dots is a very easy way of adding colour to any manicure – link. The next two are versatile shades that can be used as top coats if applied sparingly, or built-up to full coverage with a couple of coats. The left shade is the quite frankly awesome Nail Tinsel from Seventeen – link – and next to that we have more gold from The Lacquer Lab with the brilliantly named Fred & Ginger – link.
I’ve included two full cover glitter polishes, both equally pretty. The left one is a PixieDust shade from Zoya called Arlo which is a pink shade that leans purple – link – and the one on the right is a matte finish glitter shade from Gosh called Frosted Soft Coral – link.
Last, but by no means least, we have a few nude shades that I thought I’d mention as if you’ve gone for all out sparkle or colour on your outfit, you might fancy going for something subtle and simple on your nails to compliment the look. The three nude shades are all pink-leaning, since this is my collection of polishes and I’m all about the pink. The first shade is from the Nails Inc Gel Effect line and it’s called Uptown – link. In the middle is the one I mentioned earlier that has three coats as it’s a very sheer finish; I think it’s the sort of colour designed for French Manicures that brighten the nail rather than cover it opaquely – it’s Sugar Daddy from Essie – link. Last we have one of my favourite shades from 2014, which is Max Factor’s Pink Whisper – link.
There we have it! Lots of lovely colours to pick and play with to create your NYE nails.
