Last year I had the pleasure (!!) of enjoying a session of afternoon tea suspended 100 feet above the South Bank to find out more about the newest member of the NARS family, the All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation. The event was insane – I still can’t decide whether I enjoyed it or not as I did feel a little like I was toying with death (I really wasn’t – you’re strapped into a chair that’s held to the table with solid metal bolts…your legs are dangling freely though!) but I’m also really glad I had the experience as it was one of those things that I still talk about now!
The NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation is an exciting launch with a very interesting formula. The texture is a little like the oil/pigment formulas that Giorgio Armani first made popular with Maestro Fusion, yet this NARS foundation is oil-free. Consequently if you have dry skin or are prone to dehydration then you will need a good dose of moisturiser beforehand, but having said that, I’ve had nightmare skin recently as you’ll be able to see in the pictures below – it’s very dry to the touch whilst also quite spotty – and whilst this did look quite dry at first, after about half an hour it all settled in quite happily and merged really well with my skin.
There are 20 shades in the NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation range, spanning a great selection of tones. Predictably, I’m the palest in the range and my shade name is Siberia which is absolutely perfect for me. The foundation is designed to be full coverage and long-wearing, both of which I’d say are fairly accurate promises, although if I’m going to be picky I’d say it’s high rather than full coverage as if you’ve got a lot needing to be covered (hello!) then you’ll need to top-up with some concealer. The coverage is very buildable meaning you can achieve a high coverage with a very natural finish.
The thing that I love most about this foundation and that keeps me reaching for it is the finish. After it’s settled into the skin it gives the most wonderful, slightly dewy, “freshly facialed” finish to skin that is just so flattering! If you imagine yourself with the sort of skin you’d really love in a perfect world, I’m guessing you’d come up with skin that looks radiant yet natural, glowy without looking greasy and just generally really healthy, which is exactly what you achieve with this foundation.
It’s a fabulous arrival and as a side note, I was also given the some of the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealers to try and how great are they?! I had no idea! In the picture above the base has been topped up with a touch of the Radiant Creamy Concealer in Chantilly (love that shade name!) leading me to rethink my assessment of NARS as being much more than just a great colour brand, but actually a brand to take note of when it comes to base products too. The NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation launches on the 1st February 2015 for £33 each, whilst the Radiant Creamy Concealers are already available here – link – for £22; I’ll be posting more about the concealers soon.
