Last week, I uploaded a Selfie and a few people Tweeted me about the lipstick I was wearing, which is the lovely Pink Paris Matte shade from the Smashbox Be Legendary Matte Lipstick line, a collection of six gorgeous new matte shades containing a good mix of colours.
The Be Legendary Matte Lipstick texture is lovely and creamy, meaning it glides on the lips and doesn’t feel dry or chalky when on. The Pink Paris Matte shade is a pale and light milky pink which is quite a high maintenance shade to wear in any kind of formula, but as a matte finish it was quite prone to separating, especially on my lips which are quite pigmented and can show through paler shades.
Obviously with any matte lipstick you need perfect lips to begin with, as matte formulas show up every little flaw as you can see in the above picture! A quick scrub with a damp toothbrush followed by a generous application of lipbalm will ensure lips are smooth enough to take a matte finish.
The great thing about matte lipsticks is how you can wear some pretty strong colours without looking too OTT. If you’ve always wanted to try a milky pink lip, but didn’t want to head off into Barbie territory, Paris Pink Matte is a gorgeous shade. It’s quite peachy which adds warmth and stops it draining colour, so it’s a truly lovely shade to try out, and it works particularly well with a simple, lined eye – I’m always banging on about how much I love a lined eye with a bold lip, and this is a more natural way of doing that classic make-up look.
Because it’s such a high maintenance shade, this isn’t a lipstick I’ll be reaching for regularly, but as I love a matte lip and it’s such a great formula, I’ll definitely check out the other shades in the range. I always struggle with lighter matte shades and it does seem to be an issue particular to me, so don’t let my experience put you off and definitely try this if it strikes your fancy. It’s £16 here – link.

Thanks Jo! It’s getting there isn’t it? This is the longest I’ve had relatively clear skin, so fingers crossed it lasts! xx
