If you’re seeking an antidote to the sickly sweet brights of Summer and wishy-washy pastels of Spring, I have the cure right here. I cannot get enough of the Nails Inc x Alice & Olivia shades and they are pretty much all you need to add some AW15 colour to your manicure collection.
There are seven shades in the collection total, either the four full-sized individual shades, or the kit which contains three other shades as well as the token nude, Next to Nothing, which features in both the collection and the kit.
As soon as these arrived, I gave the kit a quick look, presumed it was mini versions of the full-sized collection and got stuck into the biggies instead. The four colours are Rosé and Poetry – a beautiful, rich and deep red shade; Black Diamond – a steely black shot through with silver shimmer (I’m wearing it here); Next to Nothing – the most perfect, pinkish nude (I’m wearing it here) and finally Midnight Merlot, a kind of purple take on the Rouge Noir.
The kit contains colours in a similar vein (a berry, a glitter, a nude and a red) but still something a bit different, other than Next to Nothing which is the nude that features in both edits. Ruby Night Sky is similarly “Rouge-Noir-Esque”, but whereas Midnight Merlot leans more purple, Ruby Night Sky is definitely more red. Gold Goddess is pretty much the perfect gold glitter shade for those of us who don’t like gold glitter (hello!) as it’s got a blackened undertone that gives it a retro, vintage, slightly brassy finish, making it far more appealing and cooler than a traditional gold glitter. Finally Paris Rouge is a bee-yootiful, lightly shimmering red that is just so gorgeous and pretty.
I would really struggle to pick a favourite out of this lot as they’re all so gorgeous. I love the flattering, pinky creaminess of Next to Nothing which is such a great day-to-day colour, however, Black Diamond is another great muted shade that looks particularly good on short, neat fingernails. My last three pedicures have involved Rosé and Poetry, which is the most fantastically flattering and vampy shade on pale feet, but having had a play with the swatches, I might have to go for Paris Rouge next time. These are the perfect example of shades that I might not have looked twice at had I not had to (you know me and my pinks!) but I’m so glad I got stuck-in as I truly love them – I have a bucket full of shades to work my way through at the moment, but I keep reaching for these guys instead! The individual shades are £15 each, whilst the kit is a very reasonably £25 for all 4 here – link.
