I’m slowly making my way through the Escentric Molecule fragrances, having reviewed the Escentric Molecules Escentric 02 fragrance here and the original Escentric Molecules Molecule 01 here, so today I’m sharing my thoughts on the Escentric Molecules Escentric 01 scent, which is the original Escentric scent that pairs with the Molecule 01 fragrance and relies heavily on the Iso E Super note that has made the brand so legendary. My ongoing relationship with the Escentric Molecules collection is still as odd as ever, as I find the whole range and concept fascinating, yet I always expect to dislike the fragrances themselves. Whilst I wouldn’t say I’m head-over-heels in love with Escentric o1, I certainly like it a lot more than I expected to.
Escentric 01 is a heady scent of pink pepper, lemon, Iris as well as Iso E Super, of course! As with all Escentric Molecule fragrances, it’s suitable for both sexes, but I’d say this one, for me, leans a little more masculine; the dominant note is the pink pepper followed by the lemon, which sounds like it might result in a savoury, kind of gourmand fragrance, but it’s actually quite woody, although I do think I’d prefer to smell this on a man, but that’s just my preference as it definitely works on anyone. I’ll be reviewing Escentric 03 shortly which is my favourite of the bunch, and I actually think they get better with each number as 03 is my favourite, 02 is lovely and extremely unusual, and 01 is still interesting and unique, but for me, 02 and 03 are preferable. One thing I like very much about the Escentric Molecules collection is that they do really well made travel versions that provide 30ml of fragrance presented in a metal case (the perfume bottle itself is removable) which means you can happily chuck these in your handbag or luggage without fear of them smashing. With case, Escentric Molecules Escentric 01 is £38 here – link.
