Zadig & Voltaire have released a duo of fragrances – one masculine, one feminine – just in time for Autumn; both fragrances are similarly presented in simple, elegant and slightly edgy packaging, with the female fragrance, This is Her housed in semi-glossy, white glass and This is Him in the same type of glass, just in a darker shade that’s almost definitely black, but the fact that the glass is slightly see-through means the blackness is lightened slightly.
Zadig & Voltaire This is Her is a strong yet feminine scent that’s well in keeping with the brand’s vibe. It’s clean and creamy with top notes of jasmine and pepper that work really well together to surprise and attract before the very creamy heart notes step-in to transport you through to the gourmand element. Alongside the cream is vanilla and chestnut which sit on base notes of cashmere wood and sandalwood, which, as I’m sure you can imagine, work so well together, but before you worry that you’ll end up smelling like a dessert, I’m pleased to report that the floral and pepper notes keep this scent firmly in the fragrance category and just shy of good enough to eat. The picture 30ml is £40 here – link.
The Zadig & Voltaire This is Him fragrance couldn’t be more different from the feminine fragrance above; even though some of the notes are similar, This is Him is definitely the boy’s scent as it’s very masculine from the first spray. It’s a little more simple and direct than This is Her, with the very bright top notes of grapefruit and pepper which settle into incense and vanilla, although the vanilla is very subtle. Sandalwood sits at the base, and I think, after the fragrance settles, the main notes that still stay dominant are incense and pepper. I don’t think I’ve done the description justice as this is a really lovely fragrance that’s sexy and enticing – I’m definitely putting this aside for the future Mr Beauty Geek, should he ever make an appearance…It’s £35 for 30ml here – link.
