Last week I visited the newly reopened Westbourne Grove Diptyque Boutique to celebrate the launch of the Londres (London) candle; the day was that weird, British blend of warm whilst bucketing it down, so it could not have been more appropriate to be celebrating something created and inspired by London! As you would expect from a Diptyque Boutique, the Westbourne Grove store is warm and inviting and obviously smells incredible; Diptyque tend to do regular Boutique only launches (such as this very London candle) and it’s also a fantastic venue to get your fragrance match, so if you’re near West London, definitely head on in.
The Diptyque Londres candle is just perfection with every tiny little aspect taken care of. The candle itself is mirrored with delicate, floral detailing (inspired by British wallpaper) that’s the very definition of understated pretty. The matching box is also something you won’t want to throw out, not just because it holds the beautiful fragrance of the Londres candle, but also because it’s so pretty as a standalone box – it’s currently sitting on my beauty table housing some eyeliners and brushes. The candle fragrance focuses on florals that can be found at the Columbia Road flower market, so heliotrope, lilac, juniper, hyacinth with some gentle spices, that all come together to create a scent that’s fresh yet warm and perfect for setting the mood day or night.
I really do notice the difference when burning a luxury candle; not only is the fragrance and aesthetic often more appealing (although I realise that’s quite the generalisation!) but the main things I’m aware of are how well the fragrance travels, how long it lingers and how quickly and evenly the candle burns. The Londre candle has the most astonishing throw – I set it up in my bedroom and within 20 minutes you could smell it in every room of my home. I haven’t burnt it since yesterday but the scent still lingers throughout, and whilst it’s definitely potent, it’s in no way overwhelming – the balance is just right. The Diptyque Londre candle is £48 and available exclusive at Diptyque Boutiques.
