It would’ve been so easy to put together a massive post of all things make-up as there were so many great releases in 2017, but I decided to look at what I was reaching for most by the end of the year, which narrowed it down considerably. I thought I’d squeeze in this post before the end of January!
Nobody will be surprised to see Lancome’s Teint Idole Ultra Wear Foundation, which is by far the best foundation I’ve ever used and I still can’t get enough of it; the finish, the coverage, the shade and the wear time are all just perfect. Find it here – link. As budget foundations go, The Ordinary Coverage is one of the very best, available in a great range of shades at a fantastically affordable price point – link. I forgot to include it in my picture, but I must give a special mention to the IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream, which is one of the easiest ways to get skin that looks fresh and glowing – link.
Nearer the end of last year I received the Makeup Revolution Pro HD Palette Amplified 35 in Socialite and it quickly became a favourite and still the one I reach for most. It’s such a great selection of shades and it was a pleasure to be reminded of just how great the MUR formula can be. This is a great choice for anyone who decided to make 2018 the year they de-cluttered their palette stash as the shades in this are so well picked, allowing for a huge array of warm and cool looks that can go anywhere from very natural to extremely vampy – all the love for this fabulous palette! It’s £15 here – link – and I’ll likely be having a little Tam Beauty haul soon.
For me, 2017 was my year for very neutral, flattering blusher tones, which is why my most reached for were the Cargo Powder Blush in Tonga (here – link) and the L’Oreal Paris Age Perfect Blusher in Rosewood, both of which provide that perfectly muted, dusky pink that just lifts the complexion (especially if you’re like me and very pale!) without looking overdone. There haven’t been that many highlighters that got me particularly excited, but the Estee Lauder x Victoria Beckham Highlighter in Modern Mercury is as much a joy to use as it is to look at, giving skin that elusive, “lit from within” glow that’s warm and flattering. It’s no longer in stock, but do have a little perve at the EL x VB products I got to play with last year!
Speaking of Estee Lauder x Victoria Beckham, another favourite was the Eye Kajal in Saphir/Vanille, which completely opened my eye (oh dear, accidental pun, there) to the idea of wearing coloured kohl as an alternative to black or brown to really make a smoky eye look pop – I wore my traditional earthy brown shadows and used the Saphir – a deep, jewel-toned navy – as a waterline pencil which really modernised and transformed the look on a night out. 2017 was also the year I introduced myself to cult brow brand, Anastasia Beverly Hills, finding not one, but two brow favourites – the Brow Powder Duo (here – link) and Brow Wiz (here – link) both of which I grabbed in Medium Brown, which is the most perfect, ashy, mid brown shade that looks so natural if you lean very cool-toned like me.
There are some amazing launches in 2018 already, so I think it’s going to be an exciting year for make-up!
*Mostly PR Samples apart from the ABH brow products
I want to try the brow powder! I also like the brow wiz, but my last one broke and was done in like a week. It was already broken when I got it, such a bummer!
Oh no, that’s rubbish! The Brow Powder is awesome – a bit more work than a quick pencil application but definitely worth it xx
