Recently I shared with you my first real experience of Revolution Skincare, kicking off with both the Retinol ranges (review here) and the Glycolic Acid ranges. I’ve been so impressed so far, so much so that I treated myself to a few more bits from the skincare line, including some fantastic masks and a couple of products from the Cica range, so keep your eye out for my thoughts on those. Today, I’m wrapping up my reviews on the recent skincare launches with a closer look at the Revolution Skincare Glycolic Acid range.
Glycolic Acid is one of those suits-all (or “suits most”) AHAs that does a fabulous job at refreshing the skin surface. It helps to address a number of concerns and can, over time, help with reducing marks on the skin (such as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, or post-acne marks) as well as superficial scarring and general improvement of skin tone. It’s a very popular acid that you’ll likely find in more AHA products, and whilst there are definitely more refined acids (such as Lactic Acid and Mandelic Acid) Glycolic Acid is still so well used because it’s a great overall exfoliator.
The Revolution Skincare Glycolic Acid range contains the four products I’m showing you today, plus a small range of three toners: a 2.5% Tonic, a 5% toner and an essence spray with aloe. A Glycolic Acid toner is one of the easiest ways to introduce GA into your routine, so if you’re not too sure where to start, there’s a good place to kick things off. One of the great things about Glycolic Acid is that it works quickly, so once you start using a product with a decent amount of GA in the ingredients, you’ll see and feel the results pretty much straight away (or the next morning) which is ideal for those who want results ASAP. The Revolution Skincare Glycolic Acid Glow Mud Cleanser is a gorgeous product that I really enjoy using. It feels quite creamy but it has that slight punch of AHA exfoliation, so skin feels noticeably smoother after use. Out of all the bits I was sent from both the Retinol and GA collections, this cleanser is definitely my favourite.
The Revolution Skincare Glycolic Acid Glow Polisher is a medium level manual exfoliator, which also contains AHA, so you get the best of both worlds. I’ve talked quite a bit about my views on manual exfoliators recently as I don’t think they’re absolutely essential if you have access to good acids, but at the same time, there is something about that incredibly smooth and buffed feeling skin gets after using one, so my advice with any kind of manual exfoliator is, if you have to use it, use it carefully (no aggressive scrubbing!) and not too often.
The Revolution Skincare 10% Glycolic Acid Glow Serum packs a serious punch and is the sort of product you might want to ease yourself in with if you’re prone to sensitivity. This is a really good, solid GA serum that contains both Niacinamide and Allantoin which work well to buffer against the sometimes irritating effects of GA. My skin refuses to tolerate Niacinamide, so I only used this a couple of times to get a feel for how it performs and it really did deliver on the smoothing effects you would expect from an AHA serum.
The Revolution Skincare Glycolic Acid Glow Overnight Cream is probably my second favourite product in the ranges I was sent as I think it’s the perfect product for anyone who wants to streamline their routine; you could quite happily just cleanse then use this as it provides the benefits of both a decent moisturiser (thanks to the Shea Butter and Squalane) and 7% GA, which is a good dose of AHA to have in a moisturiser, so this is a quick and easy product to add to a lazy skincare routine.
